How to use Airvat

Updated over 6 months ago

Step 1 - Request invoices

You can shop in any online or offline stores but you must request invoices issued to the name and address of Airvat (see “Invoices in the name of Airvat”).

Cash register receipts, credit card receipts, or shop’s own tax refund forms are not accepted.

Upload full and clear images of your invoices into the app as early as possible for validation.

All your approved purchases will be consolidated into a single refund claim.

Step 2 - Get your form scanned or stamped

Before departure, generate an electronic tax refund document (also known as a tax-free form) in the app after you have finished shopping.

No need to print your tax form if you are departing from France or Belgium.

Before checking-in your luggage, head to the “Detax / VAT refund”, or Customs desk at your departure point. You will either be able to validate your tax-free form at a self-service kiosk by scanning the barcode from your phone, or a Customs officer on duty will do this for you on their computer.

You will only need to print your form and get a manual customs stamp if you are departing from Northern Ireland, or if France or Belgium are not your final exit point from the European Union (EU).

Ensure that you have all your shopping available and unused as occasionally you may be selected for a Customs inspection.

Step 3 - Receive your refund within 24 hours

VAT refund will be paid directly to your nominated bank account without any hidden fees or exchange rate mark-up after your tax-free form has been validated by Customs.
