We’re introducing our new rules engine - Earl (Executes AllThingsTalk Rules Language) engine!

It’s been redesigned from the ground up to let you create simple automatic logic effortlessly, and make creating complex logic possible. Using our drag and drop rule designer, you will be able to mix and match different components to create rules that fit your use case(s).

In our old rules wizard, you could actuate a device when your assets changed state (either every time, or when a certain threshold was reached), and you could send a notification to yourself. You could also do both of these actions at preset date and time.

What you can do with EARL?

With Earl, many possibilities are now open for you to use them, such as:

  • Do multiple comparisons, such as “when my bike is moving, but it’s also locked” - in essence, detecting theft,

  • Spice up your notifications with asset states, like “Oil temperature CRITICAL at 110°C” - where 110 is taken directly from temperature asset’s state,

  • Act on multiple triggers, so trigger multiple actions,

  • Want to open your blinds every morning, but also manually whenever you hit a button? You got it!

  • Want to turn off all devices in your house at a press of a button? Do it.

Do you have any rule(s) created in our old engine? No worries, all of your existing rules are now migrated to Earl. We’re launching it with 3 components:

  1. Notify - send discrete notifications to your e-mail, maker website or smartphone app regarding created rules,

  2. Comparison - you can compare one asset state (e.g. temperature higher than...), but also create multiple comparisons within this powerful engine,

  3. Day & Time - your notifications can now be triggered at a specific day and time! Ain't this awesome? Now there is a possibility to inform someone when you know they're home, or water your plant in exact intervals.

Go try all of them, and stay tuned, because we will be releasing more!
