Activate the Live Segments feature in the Apps tab!
Live Segments is the ideal solution for keeping your resident list accurate and up-to- date, with automated daily checks to update your segments’ geographic boundaries with any changes that occur in your GIS (Geographic Information System).
To use this feature, you must have a URL from ArcGIS that is in GeoJSON format. This URL is commonly accessed from ArcGIS Online. To expose this URL, contact your GIS administrator or Esri Technical Support.
If your organization uses a different GIS, it must be able to expose a GeoJSON via http. Contact your GIS provider to know if this is possible. If your GIS has your geographic data structures formatted differently, we recommend using Bounded Segments or Community Segments for similar functionality.
How it Works
1. Create a Live Segment
A segment is a group of addresses that are deemed eligible for specific benefits, such as discounts, memberships, early program access, etc. You can create segments for specific cities, boroughs, streets, etc.
Clients that have validated their address with Google’s API and share an address within a segment are referred to as ‘residents’.
In the Community Segments tab, click Create a segment.
To configure your segment:
Input your Segment Name.
Insert your GeoJSON formatted URL from ArcGIS in the Boundaries URL field.
Click Load and your segment will be displayed to the right.
Click Create when you are finished making your segment.
When your segment is created, you will see a success message on your screen.
2. Manage your Live Segments
The following information is displayed when viewing a Live Segment:
Current Residents: The number of residents in your Clients list that live at an address within your segment. The only way a client can become a resident is if they validated their address with Google’s API in addition to having a matching address within the applicable segment.
Source URL: The boundaries URL that is used to create the segment.
Last updated: The most recent date where the segment is updated based on changes to the boundaries in your GIS.
🔴 Archive or Delete a Segment
Once a live segment is created, it cannot be edited. Click on the ... icon for options to:
Archive a segment if you no longer need it. It will appear grayed-out in your list of segments. Click on the grayed-out segment and then the … icon to unarchive.
Delete a segment if it has never been used.
Before you archive a segment, make sure it isn't associated to active memberships, registration periods and/or discounts. If you archive a segment that is linked to a discount, the segment will no longer be attached to the discount.
🔎 Search for Participants by Segment
In the Clients>People subtab, filter for participants within a community segment if you wish to send them an email or apply a batch fee. When performing any of these tasks, repeat for each page of results.
🗺️ View the Map
The Community Segments>Maps subtab provides a high-level view of your community segments. You can display one or more segments simultaneously. This allows you to pinpoint where residents are on the map and focus on areas of interest.
