Image Conversion Settings

How to configure image conversion settings in PXM — size tiers, quality, file formats, and how to reconvert existing images.

Written by Caden Lindquist

Overview

PXM automatically generates multiple variants of every image you upload — different sizes and formats that can be served across your digital channels. The Image Conversion settings let you control exactly what those variants look like: their pixel dimensions, file format(s), compression quality, and how they are sized.

These settings apply system-wide. Any file uploaded to PXM will be converted according to the configuration in place at the time of upload.

How to Access

  1. Open the left sidebar and click Settings.

  2. Select the Assets tab from the top navigation.

  3. Click Image Conversion.

Size Tiers

Image Conversion is organized into three size tiers, each of which can be configured independently:

  • Large

  • Medium

  • Small

Each tier has the same set of configurable settings.

Settings Reference

Pixel Size
The maximum dimension (in pixels) for this size tier. For example, setting 2000px for Large means the long edge will be resized to 2000px.

Quality
The compression quality of the output file, as a percentage. Defaults to 95%. A slightly lower quality setting (e.g., 95%) is recommended for images that will be uploaded to marketplace channels — it reduces file size and improves acceptance rates without a visible difference in image quality.

Constrain By
Whether the pixel size is applied to the image's width or height. Use this to ensure images fit a specific dimension requirement for your channels. This setting is found at the top and will be applied to all variations.

File Formats
Choose which format(s) to generate for this size tier: JPEG, PNG, and/or WebP. You can enable one or more formats per tier.

Important: Settings Apply at Upload Time

Image conversion settings are applied when a file is uploaded. If you change the conversion settings after files have already been uploaded, those existing files will not be automatically updated — they will retain the variants generated under the previous settings.

To apply updated settings to existing images, you need to manually trigger a reconversion.

How to Reconvert Existing Images

  1. Navigate to the files you want to update.

  2. Select the images you want to reconvert.

  3. Click the three-dot menu () at the bottom of the screen.

  4. Click Convert.

  5. PXM will regenerate the variants for those files using your current Image Conversion settings.

⚠️ Important: Only reconvert 100–200 images at a time. Converting too many images simultaneously can cause the system to become unresponsive.

Accessing File Variants

Once files have been converted, you can access their variants from the File Details page:

  1. Search for the file and click it to open File Details.

  2. Find the Variants dropdown on the right side of the page.

  3. Each variant is listed with its file type and size.

  4. Click Open Link to view the file, or Copy Link to copy the CDN URL.

Note: Some files do not support size variant generation — in those cases you may have a preview and thumbnail created for those files. Some files may not receive a preview or a thumbnail. (ie. .zip files)
