Overview
When defining a protocol, you will be guided through the following:
An interface for selecting and managing input and output parameters.
Edit step names as you go. These are great for providing context and guidance to your scientists. Expand on step names and descriptions during the protocol personalization process.
Steps allow you to group multiple related element parameters. Element parameters can be selected from any element in your workflow.
Each step can be configured with a single output. Take care when selecting outputs to ensure the most informative output is selected.

This guide provides a step-by-step approach to defining a protocol in Synthace, focusing on adding steps, managing parameters, and finalizing outputs.
Open the protocol editor
Open the menu at the top right of the Simulation Details page.
Select “Create Protocol”.
Adding steps
Insert a step:
Click the "Add Step" button to introduce one or more steps into your protocol.
The newly added step becomes active immediately.
To remove a step, click the Red Cross icon next to it.
Navigate between steps by clicking on the desired step in the sequence.
Rename a step:
Click on the pencil icon to rename the steps of your protocol. Use step names to provide context and structure to your protocol.
Managing parameters
Input parameters
Select the active step and click on an element within the workflow to reveal its parameters.
The Parameters Panel will appear on the right, displaying available parameters.
To include a specific parameter (e.g., a liquid table input):
Find the parameter in the dropdown menu.
Toggle it on to add it to the active step.
Output parameters
While on the active step, navigate to the "Outputs" tab in the left panel.
Click on an element within the workflow to reveal its output parameters.
Toggle on the desired output (e.g., a liquid output) to add it to the active step.
Once configured, your output will be displayed in the protocol interface, allowing users to easily understand the impact of changing parameters in a protocol.
Conclusion
By systematically adding steps and managing input and output parameters, you can construct a personalized user journey for your protocols in Synthace. This structured approach ensures clarity and enhances the usability of your protocols.
