Naming is difficult, and so it’s common that you might want to rename your experiment, your workflow, or your simulation. Maybe you want to add the date at which you started, indicate if the experiment has been validated, or standardise how you name the different entities in Synthace. In any case, read below to see how you can rename your experiments, workflows, simulations, and executions.
Some rules for renaming entities:
Experiments can be renamed at any time,
Workflows can be renamed at any time,
Snapshots are immutable and inherit the workflow name at the point of the simulation,
Simulations inherit the workflow name at the point of the simulation, but it can be renamed at any time,
Executions cannot be renamed directly. They always inherit the Simulation name and is updated if the Simulation name changes.
Renaming an experiment
To rename an experiment, simply open the experiment and double-click the experiment name in the breadcrumbs navigation bar. This will change it to an editable state, where you can modify it.
Note that while you can add and edit entities in experiments other scientists have created, you can only rename experiments that you have created yourself.
Renaming a workflow
To rename a workflow, simply open the workflow in the builder and double-click the workflow name in the breadcrumbs navigation bar. This will change it to an editable state, where you can modify it.
All new simulations will now inherit this new name.
Renaming a simulation
By default, simulations inherit the name of the workflow that created them. However, you can easily rename them if you need to.
You can do this in two ways:
In the builder, under the simulation panel, click the three dots and then Rename Simulation.
In the breadcrumbs navigation bar, double-click the name of the simulation to change it to an editable state, and modify it. You’ll notice that if there’s an execution associated with the simulation, this will also be automatically renamed.
Remember, if you want to rename an execution, you need to rename the simulation that created it, by following the steps above.
