Answer

Use question-level tags to control how individual question responses appear in reporting, scoring, and analytics. These tags apply to questions, not to the workflow template as a whole.

This article is a reference for approved question-level tags. Use it when configuring or validating tags in Editor.

Steps

Required for Reporting

Tags that must exist for data to appear correctly in reports

Tag Key

Purpose

When to Use

Constraints / Notes

reportName

Defines the label used for the question in reports

All reportable questions

Required for Workflow Drilldown, Power BI, and analytics

interventionLabel

Labels intervention response questions

Intervention-triggering workflows

Enables intervention reporting

General Grouping & Outcomes

Tags used to group questions across workflows for analysis

Tag Key

Purpose

When to Use

Constraints / Notes

businessType

Groups related questions by business purpose

Reused questions across workflows

Use consistent values

outcomeType

Describes the intended outcome (e.g., training need)

Outcome-based analysis

Optional; use intentionally

Hazard Analysis

Tags specific to structured hazard identification and assessment

Tag Key

Purpose

When to Use

Constraints / Notes

hazardType

Groups hazard questions by category

Hazard workflows only

Do not use outside hazard analysis

hazardIdentification

Identifies hazard question type (Identify, Likelihood, Severity)

Structured hazard assessments

Use org-defined defined values only

area

Categorizes hazards by location or operational area

Location-based analysis

Keep values standardized

hazardLevel

Classifies hazard severity

Severity-based analysis

Align with org standards

Interventions & Follow-Up

Tags used when workflows trigger actions or escalations

Tag Key

Purpose

When to Use

Constraints / Notes

interventionLabel

Labels intervention response questions

Intervention-triggering workflows

Enables intervention reporting

subCategory

Sub-classifies intervention types

Detailed intervention analysis

Optional

Strength Score

Tags used only when Strength Score is enabled.

Category

Tag Key

Purpose

When to Use

Constraints / Notes

Strength Score

strengthScore

Marks required text questions for Strength Score

Strength Score–enabled workflows

Use value \"Required\"; affects scoring only

Custom Scoring

Tags used for point-based scoring

Tag Key

Purpose

When to Use

Constraints / Notes

maxScore

Defines maximum possible score for a question

Custom-scored workflows

Numeric responses only

Common Tag Examples

Standard reporting question

[{"reportName":"Hazard Type"}]

Custom scored question

[{"reportName":"Housekeeping"},{"maxScore":"10"}]

Important rules

  • Do not create new tag keys unless you are working with your Benchmark Gensuite team.

  • Do not apply scoring tags to unsupported question types.

  • Do not mix scoring and non-scoring intent without a clear design reason.

  • Do not change tags on active workflows without testing.

  • Consistency across workflows matters more than over-customization.

Helpful notes

  • Question-level tags determine:

    • column labels in reports

    • cross-workflow comparison behavior

    • which questions contribute to scores

    • data availability in BI tools and APIs

  • Incorrect tagging can affect both historical and future data.

  • Use Manage Question-Level Tags for the configuration process.
