Answer

Workflow question types control how users interact with a workflow in Editor and what kind of response they can provide in Frontline Operations (ANVL Workflows). Choose the question type based on the kind of data you need to collect, such as a simple yes/no answer, open text, photo evidence, checklist responses, signatures, or user selections.

Steps

Use simple response types when you need basic input

  1. Use Yes/No for simple decisions or checks.

  2. Use Open Text when users need to enter freeform information.

  3. Use E-Signature when the workflow requires a signature to complete.

Use photo-enabled questions when evidence is needed

  1. Use Open Text with Photo Upload when you need a written response and one photo.

  2. Use Open Text with Multiple Photo Upload when you need a written response and multiple photos.

  3. Use List with Photo Upload when users need to review a list and attach one photo.

  4. Use Open Text with Photo Upload and Buttons when you need text, photo evidence, and button-based interaction.

  5. Use Open Text with Multiple Photo Upload and Buttons when you need text, multiple photos, and button-based interaction.

Use list and checklist types for structured selection

  1. Use Checklist Question when users need to select from a list of items.

  2. Use Checklist Radio Question when users should select only one option from a list.

  3. Use Multi-Select Question with Question per Question when each selected item should trigger its own follow-up question.

  4. Use Text List with Buttons when users need to review a list and interact using buttons.

Use workflow-supporting question types when you need context or people selection

  1. Use Automated Info with Buttons to display Work Folder details for review.

  2. Use User Selection when users need to choose one or more other employees.

  3. Use Editable List Employee Addition when users need to add employees to a Work Folder in Work Folder-enabled organizations.

  4. Use Editable List in Progress Notification when users need to notify selected people while the workflow is still in progress.

  5. Use Notice Screen with Buttons and Links when you want to present instructions, notices, links, or other read-only guidance within the workflow.

Additional Details

  • The best question type depends on the behavior you want from the user and the kind of data you need to collect.

  • Use simpler question types when possible to make workflows easier to complete.

  • Use photo, checklist, and follow-up question types intentionally so the workflow stays clear and efficient.

  • Some question types are only relevant in specific workflow designs, such as Work Folder-based workflows.
