This guide is designed for in-store hosts working with partner stores using the Anzir platform. It provides a step-by-step walkthrough to help you smoothly run your first MysteryAct (immersive role-playing game) session.
If you're a store owner, feel free to share this page with your in-store hosts for training and reference.
📝 Step 1: Select a MysteryAct
The MysteryAct game is usually chosen by the players—either by booking in advance or selecting from your store’s available titles.
Game Masters can view available AnzirActs on the store’s AnzirActs display list. Additionally, the platform's Top Select or Public Library also offers a curated selection for reference.
Each MysteryAct comes with tags like “Beginner-Friendly,” “Emotional,” or “Deduction-Based.”
💡 Tip: We recommend Game Masters get familiar with multiple AnzirActs, starting with those labeled beginner-friendly.
🔓 Step 2: Unlock the MysteryAct (for Preparation)
Some titles require hosts to unlock them before viewing the full content.
Unlocking is a one-time action per title and gives unlimited access for preparation.
However, a session fee will still apply each time the MysteryAct is officially run with players.
🎧 Step 3: Listen to the Audio Guide (if available)
Some MysteryActs include a Quick Audio Guide to help hosts get up to speed.
These guides provide a story overview, character setup, and hosting tips.
They’re great for reviewing during breaks or while commuting.
📖 Step 4: Read the MysteryAct Content
Once unlocked, you’ll have access to the full script, including:
All player character sheets
Storyline flow and key plot points
Host-only notes (such as twists and hidden information)
📘 Step 5: Review the GM Manual
Each MysteryAct comes with a Game Master Manual that includes:
Opening instructions
Scene-by-scene hosting guidance
Common questions players may ask
How to guide the final reveal and post-game discussion
🏠 Step 6: Prepare the Game Space
Make sure your venue setup fits the needs of the game:
Arrange enough seats based on the required player count
Prepare music, props, printed handouts, or projection equipment if necessary
💡 Tip:
For multiple participants, consider using larger devices (tablets/computers) for better visibility and ease of operation.
🕹️ Step 7: Create a Party!
Launch a new session from your store’s Anzir dashboard. Once you click “Start,” the platform will guide both you and the players through the story.
Create a new session from your store’s Anzir dashboard:
Tap the "+ PLAY" on the App Home page
Click "Create a Party" on the Party page
"Create a Party" on any AnzirAct Detail page
👋 Step 8: Start the Game (In-Person)
Characteristics:
Role Selection: The party creator needs to select either Game Master or player when setting up the party.
Flexible Player Count: There is no strict player limit; the recommended player count ensures the best gameplay experience.
Venue Recommended: A physical venue is recommended for the best experience, but online play is also possible.
✨ Optional: Register with a Venue for More Resources
While you can run In-Person MysteryActs, we highly recommend joining a physical venue. By registering with a partner venue, you gain access to better-quality AnzirActs, as well as more customer resources to enhance your hosting experience.
📊 Step 9: After the Game – Review and Reflect
After the session ends, the platform will prompt you to:
Ask players to rate both the MysteryAct and your hosting
Optionally fill in a recap form
Review your performance and look for areas to improve
You can also:
Access your Game Master Dashboard for stats and feedback
Work toward becoming a Certified Game Master for extra features and store visibility
