Phone numbers in accounts are added by users at the time of accepting an invite to Applause.
Quick points on why they're used in accounts and how a user needs to request a change in their account if their phone number is incorrect:
Phone numbers are in place to protect money in users' accounts.
Mobile numbers are used to avoid duplicate account creations as well as for security of accounts
When adding and setting up a bank account in the mobile app, a verification code is sent to the mobile number on the account. That code is then needed as an input in the mobile app to verify and link the bank account the user wishes to set-up
If a user wishes to update their email for their account they can do this on their own through a verification code process. In the "Personal information" section of the app, a verification code can be entered to change their email and have their username/email updated for their log-in of their account.
If your phone number is incorrect, the verification code will be sent to the number currently in the account. In order to update your phone number you must reach out to support and verify some information with Applause. Applause is the only one that can change it for a users' account for security reasons.
If you are not code is not arriving via text, make sure that the phone number entered in your account is correct, as it's common to mistype a digit during setup. If the number was entered incorrectly, the user must reach out to support for help with your phone number change.
From there, they can request a change to their registered phone number. Once the request is submitted, Applause Support will coordinate a phone call or send a message to verify the updated information before proceeding with any changes.
Restart Your Phone: Turn off your phone, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on. This can refresh your network connection and resolve minor issues.
Request the Code Again: Wait for a few minutes and then try requesting the code again. Sometimes, there may be a delay in message delivery.
Other reason your code may not be arriving, but less common - Check your phone connection, ensuring that mobile data is turned on and that they have a strong network signal. Additional connectivity troubleshooting steps:
Ensure your mobile device is not in airplane mode.
Restart Your Phone: This can refresh your network connection and resolve potential issues.
Phone filter settings: check if you have on any setting enabled that might not allow messages from a non-saved contact from being successfully received
Typically in your device Settings > Apps > Messages you can find a setting like "Filter Unknown Senders" to see if that is enabled.Contact Your Mobile Carrier: Reach out to your carrier to ensure there is no issue with receiving text messages.
