The Reviews Map is an embeddable widget that displays your reviews geographically on your website. Visitors can pan and zoom to see reviews in their area, click on individual pins to read reviews, or tap the "Geolocate me" button to find reviews closest to them. It's a great way to show off your local presence and build trust with prospective customers browsing your site.
Where to find the Map settings
From the Reviews section in your Applause admin portal, you'll see a new Map screen in the navigation.
Click into Map to access the widget configuration.
Configuring your Reviews Map
Once inside the Map screen, you can customize the following settings:
Map center — Set the default geographic center of the map when it loads on your site.
Default zoom level — Control how zoomed in or out the map appears on page load.
Primary color — Match the widget's accent color to your brand.
Visible locations — Choose which of your Applause locations appear as pins on the map.
Allowed embed domains — Enter the domain(s) where the widget is allowed to load (e.g.,
yourwebsite.com). The widget will only display on domains you've approved here.
Make sure to click Save after making any changes.
Getting the embed code
Once your map is configured, scroll to the bottom of the Map screen to find your embed snippet — a small HTML code block you'll copy and paste into your website.
The widget is lightweight (under 15KB) and will only load on domains listed in your Allowed embed domains list, so your reviews stay on your approved sites.
Adding the widget to your website
Paste the HTML snippet into the section of your website where you'd like the map to appear. If you're not sure where to add it, share the snippet with your web developer or the person who manages your site.
Note: The embed will not display on domains that aren't included in your Allowed embed domains list. If the widget isn't appearing on your site, double-check that your domain is saved in the Map settings.
Privacy & how pins are displayed
To protect customer privacy, review locations on the map are displayed using coordinate fuzzing — meaning pins are shown near (but not at the exact address of) where the review originated. This keeps your customers' precise locations private while still giving site visitors a meaningful geographic picture of your service area.
Tips
If you have multiple locations, make sure to select all relevant locations under Visible locations so the map reflects your full coverage area.
Use the primary color setting to match your brand's main color for a seamless look on your site.
The "Geolocate me" button on the live widget allows visitors to automatically zoom to reviews near their current location — great for service-area businesses.
