The ATM (Automated Trading Module) feature in Tradovate helps traders automate risk management by automatically attaching Stop Loss and Take Profit orders to trades.
Instead of manually entering risk parameters every time you open a position, you can create reusable ATM templates and apply them with a single click.
This allows for faster execution, improved consistency, and better risk management.
What Can ATM Do?
An ATM strategy can automatically:
Set a Stop Loss
Set a Take Profit target
Apply predefined risk settings
Standardize trade management
Reduce manual order entry
Once configured, the selected ATM strategy will automatically apply its settings to every new trade.
Creating an ATM Strategy
Step 1: Open ATM Settings
Open Tradovate and navigate to your trading chart.
Near the Buy and Sell buttons, locate the ATM section and click the settings (gear) icon.
This will open the ATM configuration window.
Step 2: Create a New ATM Template
Click the + button to create a new strategy.
Enter a name that helps identify the setup.
Examples:
Scalping Setup
Swing Trade Setup

Step 3: Choose Your Display Method
Tradovate allows ATM values to be displayed in different formats:
Ticks

Dollar Value
Select the format that best matches your trading style.
Step 4: Configure Your Risk Settings
Choose whether the ATM should include:
Stop Loss only
Take Profit only
Both Stop Loss and Take Profit
Most traders use both for complete trade management.
Step 5: Set Your Take Profit Target
Enter the distance or value for your Take Profit order.
Example:
10 ticks
20 ticks
Custom value based on your strategy
The Take Profit order will automatically be placed when the trade opens.
Step 6: Set Your Stop Loss
Enter the distance or value for your Stop Loss.
Example:
10 ticks
15 ticks
Custom risk amount
This defines the maximum loss allowed for the trade.
Step 7: Select a Stop Loss Type
Tradovate offers several Stop Loss configurations depending on how you want your trade managed.
These options may include:
Fixed Stop Loss
Trailing Stop
Auto Breakeven
Other advanced risk management methods
Select the option that best fits your trading approach.
Step 8: Save Your Strategy
After completing the setup, click Save.
Your ATM template will now be available for future trades.
Example ATM Setup
Let’s say you want:
10 Tick Stop Loss
10 Tick Take Profit
You would:
Create a new ATM strategy.
Enter a strategy name.
Set Stop Loss to 10 ticks.
Set Take Profit to 10 ticks.
Save the template.
The strategy can then be reused whenever needed.
Applying an ATM Strategy to a Trade
Once your template is saved, it can be applied before entering a position.
Method 1: Through Advanced Settings
Open the Trading Panel.
Navigate to Advanced.
Select ATMs.
Choose your saved ATM strategy from the dropdown list.
The selected template will now be active.
Method 2: Through the Trading Panel
Locate the ATM selection dropdown near your order entry controls.
If it currently displays OFF, select your saved ATM strategy.
Once selected, all future trades will use the configured settings until another ATM is chosen or ATM is disabled.
Managing Active ATM Orders
When an ATM strategy is active and a trade is executed:
Stop Loss orders are created automatically.
Take Profit orders are created automatically.
Orders remain linked to the position.
Risk management occurs without additional manual input.
You can still modify or remove the orders after the trade has been placed if needed.
Deleting an ATM Strategy
If you no longer need a saved ATM template:
Step 1: Open ATM Management
Navigate to:
Advanced → ATMs
Step 2: Open the ATM List
Click the ATM strategy dropdown.
Step 3: Remove the Strategy
Hover over the strategy you want to delete and click the trash can icon.
The ATM template will be permanently removed from your account.
