Checkout delivery estimates: set up and customize (Plus)

Add delivery estimates under each line item and below the order summary at checkout, and customize their text and date format. Available on the Plus plan.

Written by Trevor Reid

ArrivesBy can show delivery estimates inside your Shopify checkout, in the order summary next to your shopper's items. There are two checkout extensions, and you can use either one or both.

Checkout estimates need the ArrivesBy Plus plan and a Shopify Plus store, because Shopify only allows checkout extensions on Shopify Plus.

The two extensions

  • Line Item Delivery Estimate: one estimate under each item in the order summary, for example "Estimated arrival: Oct 3 – 5". Each item gets its own dates.

  • Overall Delivery Estimate: one estimate for the whole order, shown once below the list of items. It uses the same calculation as the estimate ArrivesBy saves on each order: the earliest ship and arrival dates among the items, and the latest of the items' latest delivery dates.

Use the line item estimate when your items ship on different timelines and you want each one to show its own dates. Use the overall estimate when you want a single, simple promise for the order. Using both is fine: the line estimates give the detail, and the overall estimate gives the summary.

The two extensions are separate. Each one is added on its own and has its own settings, so set up the one you want, or both.

Set it up

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Checkout and click Customize to open the checkout editor.

  2. Open the Apps tab in the left sidebar.

  3. Find Line Item Delivery Estimate and/or Overall Delivery Estimate and add it. Each one is placed in the order summary, under Cart.

  4. Select the new block in the sidebar to open its settings. Adjust Text customization, Date format, Text style and Text tone if you like, and for the overall estimate also Icon (see below). You can leave them all as they are.

  5. Click Save.

Adding the block is what turns the estimate on. To turn it off, remove the block from the checkout editor and save.

In the checkout editor, the block shows sample dates with an "Example" label so you can preview your settings. Shoppers see real dates and no label.

Text customization

The text shown to your shopper. Leave it blank to use the default:

Estimated arrival: [delivery_range]

To change the wording, type your own text and put a variable, such as [delivery_range], where the date should go. For example:

Arrives <strong>[delivery_range]</strong> with free tracking

Variables

Each variable is replaced with the real date for the item (or, for the overall estimate, the whole order).

  • [delivery_range]: the delivery date, or a range like "Oct 3 – 5". Recommended: it shows a single date when the estimate is exact and follows your shopper's language.

  • [ship_range]: the date or range when the order is expected to ship.

  • [order_date]: the date of the estimate (today).

  • [delivery_min_date]: the earliest delivery date.

  • [delivery_max_date]: the latest delivery date.

  • [ship_min_date]: the earliest ship date.

  • [ship_max_date]: the latest ship date.

The min and max variables are useful for special wording, like "As early as [delivery_min_date]". For most stores, [delivery_range] and [ship_range] are all you need.

Variables are not case sensitive. Anything else in square brackets is shown exactly as typed, so a misspelled variable like [delivery_rnge] is easy to spot. Variables from the product blocks, such as [countdown] and [location], don't work in checkout.

If a variable has no date to show, the whole estimate is hidden instead of showing a half-finished sentence.

Formatting

You can use a few simple tags in the text:

  • <strong> or <b> for bold

  • <em> or <i> for italic

  • <br> to start a new line

  • <a href="https://example.com/shipping">Shipping info</a> for a link. Links must start with https://, http://, / or mailto:

Other tags are removed. Checkout text boxes can't show formatting, so type the tags yourself.

Date format

Choose how dates are written. These are the same options as the product blocks. Dates always follow your shopper's language, and the examples below are shown for English.

  • Short: Oct 3 (default)

  • Medium: Oct 3, 2026

  • Long: October 3, 2026

  • Weekday short: Sat, Oct 3

  • Weekday long: Saturday, October 3

  • Short numeric: 10/3

  • Numeric: 10/3/2026

  • ISO: 2026-10-03 (the same in every language)

Style, tone and icon

Checkout extensions can't use custom fonts, exact colors or sizes. Shopify draws them with your checkout's own branding, so you choose from a short set of options.

  • Text style (both extensions): Normal (default), Subdued (softer, less prominent), Small or Strong (bold).

  • Text tone (both extensions): Default, Info, Success, Warning or Critical. Shopify picks the exact color from your checkout branding, so for example Success is usually a green.

  • Icon (Overall Delivery Estimate only): None (default), Truck, Delivery, Delivered, Calendar or Clock. The icon sits beside the estimate and uses the tone you chose.

Bold and italic inside the text itself (see Formatting above) still work with any style.

When an estimate shows

  • Estimates are calculated with your ArrivesBy delivery rules, markets and regions, the same as on your product and cart pages.

  • The estimate uses the shopper's shipping address once they enter it. Until then it uses their country.

  • Items that don't ship, such as digital products, don't get an estimate. Items going to local pickup or local delivery don't either.

  • If your rules hide the estimate for an item, that item is left out. The overall estimate is built from the items that do have one.

  • If an item's estimate can't be loaded for a moment (a temporary error), the overall estimate is left out instead of showing dates that might be incomplete. It comes back the next time the cart or address changes.

  • An item with an exact delivery date (not a range) doesn't extend the end of the overall range. The overall estimate ends at the latest of the items' latest delivery dates.

  • Estimates never block checkout. If something goes wrong, the estimate is simply left out.

What you can't change

The position of each estimate is fixed: the line item estimate sits under each item, and the overall estimate sits below the list of items. Fonts and exact colors follow your checkout branding.
