For all artists it is incredibly important to keep your Art secure. In order to do that, there are many methods you can employ and Art Storefronts is on your side trying to help out. In addition to disabling the right click option on your website and only displaying low-resolution images, we also have provided you with the opportunity to use a built-in watermark.

Watermarks serve a dual purpose: they not only help protect your artwork from unauthorized use but also promote your brand by overlaying a custom image or text on your artwork.

Having said that, it is important to know that, ultimately, you are the person in charge of the security of your images. What we mean by this, is that what you choose to upload is what will be on the Internet.

It’s also noteworthy that watermark files must be uploaded directly from your local device; they cannot be selected from already site-uploaded files.

If you are extremely concerned about image security (and this is NOT what we suggest as a best practice), then you should self-fulfill your own orders (do NOT use automated fulfillment) and only upload low resolution files that already contain watermarks. This is the absolute safest you can be. It is completely within your control to do this, if you prefer.

Additionally, watermarks are not applied to all product types—only print products use watermarks, while others may rely on low-resolution images to prevent unauthorized reproduction.

  1. Log in to your Art Storefronts Site Manager and click on the Art Print Store you want to work in. We will be using the page titled Warehouse - Open Edition Prints .

  2. Click on the tab labeled Info.

  3. Scroll down to the section labeled Display Watermark When Images are Rendered Large. If set to True, a watermark will be applied to all of your images while a visitor views a particular product. If set to False, no watermark will be applied when in this view.

  4. Scroll down to the section labeled Display Watermark When Images are Rendered Small. If set to True, a watermark will be applied to all of your images when the image is in small preview or as a thumbnail. If set to False, no watermark will be applied when in this view.

This is a sample result when:

  • Watermarks are displayed when the image is small

  • Watermarks are displayed when the image is large

Notes and Limitations

  • Product Applicability: Watermarks are applied only to print products/images; other product types (e.g., originals) may not display watermarks because low-resolution previews are used instead. This prevents high-quality reproduction from screenshots.

  • Image Source Restriction: You cannot select watermark images from site-uploaded files; they must be directly uploaded from your local computer.

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues uploading or applying your watermark:

  1. Ensure that your image file is in a supported format and meets size requirements.

  2. Confirm that you are uploading from a local device and following the steps outlined above.

  3. If the watermark does not appear on your print products, double-check your Watermark settings under the Info tab. For further assistance, reach out to Art Storefronts support to ensure smooth customization for your gallery.
