Privacy, security, and compliance: How Artega handles payments the right way

At Artega, we take our legal responsibilities seriously. We’re committed to protecting both our artists and patrons while ensuring compliance with international regulations. One key aspect of financial security is Know Your Customer (KYC), a regulation designed to prevent financial crimes like money laundering.

Why KYC matters

KYC regulations originated in 1970 with the U.S. Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), which aimed to prevent illicit financial activities such as money laundering. Today, KYC is a standard practice worldwide, helping keep transactions safe and legitimate.

But here’s the thing—Artega is not a payment processor. We focus on what we do best: providing a seamless experience for artists and collectors. That’s why, just like other businesses rely on Stripe or PayPal, we outsource payment processing to Wert.

How payments work on Artega

When you make a purchase on Artega, we only collect your name and email address to send you important details like your Meet the Artist information and purchase confirmation. The actual payment happens outside of our site, in Wert’s secure environment.

Here’s what happens when you pay:

  • Wert creates an account for you using your mobile number to track your spending.

  • To process a card payment, Wert requires your card details, address, and legal name—just like any other online store.

  • Artega and your chosen artist never see your payment details or personal information.

Understanding KYC limits

KYC regulations allow transactions up to $5,000 before requiring ID verification. If you choose to verify your identity, you can spend up to $20,000 per week - lucky artists!

These spending limits apply across all transactions with Wert, not just those made on Artega.

Your privacy is our priority

At Artega, we believe in privacy-first solutions. While KYC laws help maintain security, we ensure that your personal and financial data remain protected. Wert manages your payment details independently, and Artega never accesses this information.

You can set up a fresh account with Wert by using a different mobile number before completing ID verification.

If you ever need to delete your Wert account, simply email privacy@wert.io with:

  • Your phone number

  • Full name

  • Last 4 digits of your card

  • Amount of your last transaction

This allows Wert to locate and remove your profile securely.

Trust and transparency in Web3

Before launching Artega, we worked closely with our legal team to ensure compliance with financial regulations while maintaining our core values of privacy, security, and trust.

We’re committed to replicating the privacy cash affords with the convenience of online payments—without compromising security. In a world where data harvesting is the norm, we believe you should trust the people you do business with, not corporations profiting from your information.
