What's Upselling?

Upselling is the act of trying to persuade your customers to add additional or more expensive items to their order, with the goal of increasing your Average Order Value (AOV) in order to maximize your profits.

Why Does Upselling Matter?

Upselling creates significant additional profit that wouldn’t otherwise exist.

Not only does it boost your business’s average order value (AOV), but it also enhances the customer experience.

By presenting offers that address their needs or solve a problem, you provide convenience and added value—something customers appreciate. This, in turn, strengthens trust and fosters long-term brand loyalty.

What Types of Upselling Does AfterSell Provide?

AfterSell offers three distinct upsell types, strategically covering three key stages of the transaction. This comprehensive approach ensures you maximize every opportunity to increase your average order value (AOV).

  1. Checkout Upsells

Currently only available to Shopify Plus merchants due to Shopify's eligibility requirements.

Checkout Upsells are offers presented directly during the checkout process. These can be placed in various locations on the page to seamlessly encourage additional purchases. Here’s how they appear:

2. 1-Click Upsells

1-Click Upsells, also known as Post-Purchase Upsells, appear immediately after a customer places an order but before they reach the Thank You Page. Since these offers are presented after checkout, they carry no risk of order churn.

What makes them even more powerful is their seamless, one-click acceptance—hence the name "1-Click Upsells." Once accepted, the additional items are automatically added to the original order and paid for instantly.

These upsells are the true powerhouse of AfterSell. Here’s an example of how they look:

3. Thank You Page Upsells

This upsell type appears on the final page of a customer's order journey—the Thank You Page (also known as the confirmation page). Similar to 1-Click Upsells, these offers carry no risk of order churn since the customer has already completed their purchase.
