Smart Links is a feature of the Atlassian Platform that turn links to objects, files, and documents into rich, interactive previews in Atlassian Cloud products. This allows teams to get the context they need while continuing to work in the apps that let them thrive.

With Smart Links and Atlas, you can:

1️⃣ Embed projects and goals inside Confluence and Jira Cloud

⚠️ Viewers must have an authenticated Atlas user account to see Smart Links

Confluence and Jira Cloud products (and soon other Atlassian Cloud products) will recognize the following links from Atlas as Smart Links:

  1. Project or goal, e.g. https://team.atlassian.com/project/ACME-1234

  2. Tag, e.g. https://team.atlassian.com/updates/tag/<tag_id>

  3. Filtered list of projects/goals, e.g. https://team.atlassian.com/projects?tql=%

When you paste one of these links into a Confluence page/comment or Jira issue description/comment, you have a few different display options to choose from. Watch video below for a demo and keep reading for a look at each option.

Display projects and goals in context

Great for when you want to provide viewers quick context inside a Confluence page, issue description, or comment, inline links and cards show live preview of a project/goal's title and current status.

For embedded cards, viewers can click Preview to see the project/goal's most recent update without leaving Confluence or Jira.

⚠️ Atlas links supported:

  • Projects: https://team.atlassian.com/project/<project_key>

  • Goals: https://team.atlassian.com/goal/<goal_key>

Show a project or goal's about tab and latest update

Selecting Display embed when pasting a link to a project or goal will show a live preview of its most recent update and about tab. This is really helpful for producing ad hoc reports or when you want people to always see a team or project's latest update when visiting a related Confluence page that contains more detail.

⚠️ Atlas links supported:

  • Projects: https://team.atlassian.com/project/<project_key>

  • Goals: https://team.atlassian.com/goal/<goal_key>

Embed a list of all projects with a specific tag

Great for program/initiative/team reporting, when you paste a link to a tag from Atlas and select Display embed, you get a rich list of all current and upcoming projects with that tag.

Expanding a project in the list will show its latest update inline.

⚠️ Atlas links supported

  • Tag: https://team.atlassian.com/updates/tag/<tag_id>

Display a list of filtered projects or goals

Need to produce a very specific report? No problem. Any search you perform in the Project and Goal directories in Atlas can be embedded in Confluence or Jira Cloud.

Once you've applied your filters, just copy the link from your browser's address bar, paste it into a Confluence page/comment or Jira issue description/comment, and select Display embed.

⚠️ Atlas links supported

  • Filtered projects: https://team.atlassian.com/projects?tql=%

  • Filtered goals: https://team.atlassian.com/goals?tql=%

💡 Did you know? You can also export filtered projects and goals to CSV

2️⃣ Link and embed previews of files and docs from apps in Atlas

It's no secret that every team uses a different set of apps to get work done. With Smart Links you can connect the dots between teams, their apps and work by bringing the context from those apps into Atlas. Smart Links supports Links to objects, files, or docs from more than 40 apps including Figma, Google Docs, Loom, Dropbox, Atlassian Cloud products, and more.

Make your updates more useful and engaging

When you're limited to 280 characters, it's really helpful when previews of related files and docs from other apps are embedded inline in your project and goal updates.

Provide all the context, wherever it lives, on your project and goal homepages

Whether it's a video, document, or design file, just paste a link to it in your project or goal's About tab and chose Embed for a rich preview.

Connect everything with related links

Adding related links to your projects and goals ensures stakeholders can always access the level of detail whenever they need it no matter where a team chooses to do their work. Links from supported apps will automatically unfurl.

3️⃣ Display live previews of projects and goals in Trello

Turn Trello cards into live previews of projects and goals

When creating a card on a Trello board, pasting a link to a project, goal, or tag in Atlas as the name of the card will convert it into an Atlas smart card.

Clicking Preview shows will show the latest project, goal or tags updates right from within Trello.

Display projects and goals in context

Great for when you want to provide viewers quick context on a project or goal inside a Trello card, inline links show live preview of a project/goal's title and current status. Simply paste a link to an Atlas project or goal inside a Trello card's description.

⚠️ Atlas links supported:

  • Projects: https://team.atlassian.com/project/<project_key>

  • Goals: https://team.atlassian.com/goal/<goal_key>

  • Tag: https://team.atlassian.com/updates/tag/<tag_id>
