Can I add alt text to chapter header images?

Updated over 5 months ago

Yes — if you have enabled Use Individual Chapter Images in your theme and are not using background images, you can add alt text to each chapter’s header image individually.

Here’s how it works:

  1. In your theme settings, toggle on “Use Individual Chapter Images.”

If you use the same image for every chapter, alt text is not necessary or available.

  1. Choose your preferred image placement and other settings.

Note: Alt text is not supported for background images, as these are programmed differently in the ePub and cannot include alt text.

  1. After saving your theme, go to the Writing Tab.

  1. For each chapter, click the image icon to the left of the chapter title to upload or change that chapter’s header image.

  1. After selecting an image, you’ll see an Alt Text field where you can enter a short, meaningful description (under 140 characters).

This alt text will be included in your ePub export and help screen reader users understand your chapter header images.
