The Audience Manager now provides a global view of a contact’s subscription preferences directly in the contacts table. This helps you respect consent while managing subscriptions for your marketing lists.
Summary of Global Subscription Status
Global Opt-In: Indicates whether a contact has given permission to receive messages across all channels (Email and/or SMS).
Opted in: The contact has consented to receive messages.
Opted out: The contact has withdrawn consent and cannot receive messages.
Viewing Subscription Status
Go to Audience Manager → Contacts.
In the Audience table, check the Subscribed column:
Green envelope and/or text icon: Contact is globally opted in to email and/or SMS.
Grey envelope and/or text icon: Contact is globally opted out of email and/or SMS.
Manually Subscribe or Unsubscribe Contacts in Contact Profiles
Select one or more contacts.
Click List in the bottom action menu.
Choose:
Add to List: Subscribe contact(s) to a specific list.
Remove from List: Unsubscribe contact(s) from a list.
Note: You must confirm you have obtained proper consent before subscribing a contact to any list. Always check a contact’s global opt-in status before subscribing them to a list to ensure you’re following their preferences and complying with consent laws.
Manually Override a Contacts Subscription Status via CSV Import
You can now manage and update your contact subscription status via CSV import. We have included a new column to map in our CSV importer tool called 'Email Subscription'
To update your Contact Subscription Status by CSV import:
Go to Audience Manager and click on Import Contacts
Make sure Update subscription status is toggled ON (this allows the subscription status in the CSV file to overwrite the existing status of contacts in the database)
Check the legal confirmation checkbox (A mandatory agreement affirming the user's sole responsibility for obtaining adequate legal consent from contacts when updating their subscription status).
When importing contacts, if the toggle is enabled, the email/sms subscription values for existing contacts in your database will be updated:
Step 2: Prepare your CSV file
Update your CSV to include a column called:
Email Subscription
Populate this column with the appropriate subscription value for each contact. For example:
Subscribed
This column will be used to determine whether a contact is opted in or out of email messaging.
Step 3: Map the email subscription column
During the CSV mapping step, you will be prompted to map a column to Email subscription status.
If you are importing from Mailchimp or Constant Contact, this field is automatically mapped
For all other imports, manually select the Email Subscription column from your CSV
Once mapped, the subscription value in your CSV will be applied to each contact.
Step 4: Run the import
After mapping is complete, proceed with the import as normal.
The mapped Email Subscription column will override the global email opt-in status for each imported contact.
Supported values and behaviour
Only specific values in the mapped column are processed.
Accepted values
These values will update the contact’s email subscription status:
subscribed→ Opt-inactive→ Opt-inunsubscribed→ Opt-out
Ignored values
Any other value (including empty cells or unexpected text) is ignored
When ignored, the contact’s existing subscription status is not changed
Ignored values are visually highlighted during the mapping step so you can review them before completing the import.
Important notes
Subscription updates only apply when Update subscription status is enabled
This mapping affects email subscription status only
Contacts with unsupported values will still be imported, but their subscription status will remain unchanged
Managing Subscriptions with Automations, Integrations & Data Capture
You can manage subscriptions automatically using automations, integrations, or Data Capture forms, ensuring contacts are added to the right lists while respecting their global opt-in preferences.
Automations
Set up an Automation to automatically add contacts to lists based on triggers, such as:
Purchasing a ticket
Tag added
Automations save time and reduce manual errors, while ensuring contacts are only added if they’ve opted in.
Integrations
For first-party integrations (e.g., Ticketek, Ticketmaster, Dice), you can associate a list with the integration. Contacts who opt in via the integration are automatically added to that list.
Data Capture
Use Data Capture forms to collect fan data and build your marketing lists. Fans can opt in to your marketing lists directly when completing a form, making it easy to grow your audience while respecting consent.
Note: Audience Republic will always respect the contact’s global opt-in status. Contacts who have opted out will not be added to lists for messaging.
Best Practices
Always check global opt-in status before adding contacts to a list.
Use automations to manage subscriptions consistently and reduce manual errors.
Keep your subscription records up to date to comply with regulations and maintain trust.
If a contact has globally opted out, do not attempt to manually subscribe them; their preferences must be respected.
