Controlled Count: Clearing a medication

This med shouldn’t be in the controlled count — so why am I still counting it?

Here’s how to remove a controlled drug from the controlled count list when it is no longer needed for administration.

Step 1:
From the medications tab of the resident's chart, discontinue the medication.

Step 2: Confirm that the Controlled Count is zero. Dispose of any extra medication in the controlled drug count tab of eMAR.

Step 3: Verify Zero Count at the next End-of-Shift (EOS) Count. Save the count
