Learn how to properly authorized Avian to access your data

Updated over 10 months ago

Before Avian can access your data, it requires proper authorization and permissions. If you're encountering connection issues, the first step is to ensure that Avian is authorized to connect to your data platform.

Verify Your Connectors

The initial step in troubleshooting authorization issues is to confirm that you have correctly set up a connector for the data source you intend to query.

Visit avian.io/sources to see a list of your active connectors. This will how you which data platforms you've successfully connected to Avian. You can also add additional connectors on this page by clicking "Add Connector".

Ensure Proper Account Access

Once you've confirmed the activation of the appropriate connector, it's crucial to verify that the user account used for authorization has the necessary access to the accounts you intend to query. Avian's access is directly tied to the permissions of your user credentials.

  • Check Account Access: Determine which accounts Avian can access by selecting the "Manage Accounts" option within any of the data connectors. A lack of accounts listed may indicate an issue with the connection or that the user credentials lack access to any accounts.

  • Partial Account List: If you notice that the list of accessible accounts is incomplete, this typically means that the user credentials do not have permission to view the missing accounts.

  • Verify Access on the Original Platform: To confirm that the user account used for authorization can access the specific accounts, log in to the data platform directly using the same user credentials. If you cannot see the account there, you might need to add the account to your user profile or obtain access permissions from the account owner.

  • Adding Multiple Connections: In cases where the desired accounts are associated with different user credentials, consider adding multiple connections to Avian from the same platform. This approach allows you to compile a comprehensive list of accounts by leveraging access from various user profiles.
