The primary purpose of relationship tagging is to track connections and networks between other AwardSpring users (students, admins, reviewers and donors). This includes family members, organizations, team members, etc. Below we share a few examples.
Example: Tracking relationships between an organization and their founders/donors.
Organization: Riverton Community Foundation
Employee: Melvin Blackwell
Once the foundation organization donor account is created (including the individual donor accounts for Melvin Blackwell), we are able to track their relationship under Riverton Community Foundation's account, specifically in the Profile > Relationships section. By clicking +Add, we can tag Barack and Michelle individually.
In the first field, type in the name of the individual. The field will start to populate accounts in AwardSpring with the user type. In the second field, select the relationship.
Note: you need to have an account created for an individual in AwardSpring in order to track relationships.
The relationship will be reflected in the Relationships section under that donor's account (i.e. Melvin Blackwell).
Removing & Editing Relationships
Each relationship row has two controls at its right edge:
The pencil edits the relationship, for example changing "Employee" to "Board Member"
The x removes the connection
Removing a relationship only breaks the link between the two records. It does not delete either donor.
Relationships appear on both records, but are managed from one
When you add a relationship, it appears on both records automatically. You do not need to add it again from the other side.
The record you added it from is the one that owns it. That is where the pencil and x appear, and where any change has to be made. On the other record the relationship is shown for reference, labelled Added from the other profile, with no edit or remove controls.
So if you created a relationship between a foundation and one of its employees while working on the foundation's record, you can only edit or remove it from the foundation. Opening the employee's record shows the relationship but does not let you change it.
If you cannot edit or remove a relationship, look for the "Added from the other profile" label. It means the relationship was created from the connected record, so open that record and make the change there.
