Payment Pages: A Detailed Guide

Payment pages let you collect donations online, with the gift recorded in AwardSpring automatically against the fund, campaign and fields you choose. It will help showcase your donor's mission, deepen donor engagement, and simplify your workload.

Before you start: payment pages require a Stripe account To learn how to do so, click here.

Finding your pages

Go to Fundraising > Payment Pages.

The left panel lists Create Page at the top, then your existing pages grouped into Published Pages and Draft Pages. Select any page to edit it.

A page stays a draft until you publish it, so you can build it over several sittings without anything going live. You may also unpublish a page and it will be moved to drafts.

The five tabs

Each page is configured across five tabs: Configuration, Field Mapping, Communication, Thank You Page and Publishing. A tab shows a checkmark once its required fields are complete.

A page cannot be published until every tab is complete.

Configuration

Page Settings

Field

Notes

Internal Name *

What your team sees in the page list. Donors never see it.

Public Header *

The heading donors see at the top of the page, for example GIVE TODAY!

Public Description

A line or two under the heading explaining what the gift supports.

Custom URL Slug

An optional readable ending for the page address, for example annual-fund. Leave it blank and AwardSpring generates one.

Set the slug if you are putting the link in print, an email signature or anywhere someone might type it by hand.

Branding

Set a Brand Color and upload an Image. Both are optional, but a page with your color and a relevant image converts better than a plain one.

Suggested Donation Values

Enter the amounts you want to offer, each with an optional short label. The labels appear under the amount on the donor's page.

Click + Add tier to add another, or the x at the right of a row to remove one.

Tick Monthly Payments to also offer recurring giving, then set Default Amount #1, #2 and #3. You may also create separate individual and monthly payment pages.

Click Save.

Field Mapping

This tab decides how gifts from this page are recorded in AwardSpring. Getting it right here is what stops you reconciling gifts by hand later.

Matching with AwardSpring Fields

Field

Notes

Subject *

The subject line on every gift activity this page creates.

Fund

The fund every gift is attributed to.

Campaign

The campaign every gift is attributed to. See Campaigns.

Description

Detail carried onto the gift activity.

Only Subject is required, but fill in Fund and Campaign wherever you can. Every gift from this page inherits these values, so a page mapped to the right fund needs no cleanup afterwards, and one that is not will need every gift edited individually.

Note: several of these fields are dropdowns populated from your own site, so you can only select something that already exists in AwardSpring. Campaign is the clearest example. To tag gifts from this page to a campaign, create it first under Fundraising > Campaigns, then come back and select it here.

See Campaigns for how to create one.

Tribute Giving

Tick Offer "In Memory / In Honor of" on this page to let donors mark their gift as being in memory or in honor of someone. The honoree details are saved on the gift automatically.

Custom Fields

Add custom fields to collect extra information from donors on this page. Each field is mapped to somewhere in AwardSpring, so the answer lands on a record rather than in a report you have to read manually.

For each field:

  1. Enter the Field label, which is what the donor sees.

  2. Choose where the answer is stored: Gift Field, Giving Custom Field or Donor Field.

  3. Choose the specific field under Save answer to.

  4. Tick Required if the donor must answer before they can give.

Click + Custom Field to add another, then Save Custom Fields.

Use Giving Custom Field to write into the custom gift fields you set up in Settings. See Custom Gift Fields.

Communication

Confirmation Email

Tick Enable email confirmations for successful transactions and choose an Email Template, for example Gift Acknowledgement. The donor receives this after a successful donation.

BCC Recipients

Addresses here receive a copy of every donor confirmation email. They are invisible to the donor. Separate multiple addresses with a comma or semicolon.

Admin Donation Notification

Each address here receives a notification whenever a donation is made through this page. Leave it blank to turn notifications off.

The difference matters: BCC gets you a copy of what the donor received, while the admin notification is an internal alert that a gift came in. Use BCC for records, the notification for anyone who needs to act.

Click Save.

Thank You Page

What the donor sees immediately after paying. Choose one of two options.

  1. Success Page displays a message in AwardSpring. Enter a Title and an optional Description.

  2. Redirect to sends the donor to a URL of your choosing, for example a thank-you page on your own website.

Click Save.

Publishing

Page URL is the address donors will use. Click the copy icon at the right to copy it.

Payment Methods shows what the page accepts, currently credit and debit cards.

Use Preview at the top right to open the page as a donor sees it. Always preview before you share the link.

Click Publish Page when you are ready. A published page shows Page is published along with an Unpublish Page button, which takes the page offline without deleting it.

What donors see

The donor opens your link and moves through three steps: Donation Info, Contact Info and Payment.

On Donation Info they choose one of your suggested amounts, with your labels shown underneath, or enter a Custom amount. If monthly payments are enabled, they can choose between one time and monthly here.

They can tick the box to cover the processing fee. If they do not, the Stripe fee comes out of your donation.

On Contact Info they enter their details. All fields are required.

On Payment they enter their card details. Incorrect details produce a warning before anything is charged.

After a successful payment they see your thank you page, and receive the confirmation email if you enabled one.

Thank you to our donors

Published pages show a donor wall at the bottom, listing the total raised, the number of donors, and each donor with their amount.

How gifts reach AwardSpring

Every donation through a payment page creates a gift activity on the donor's record automatically, using the mapping you set on the Field Mapping tab: fund, campaign, subject, and any custom field answers.
