The Palette Module is home to all your Product color-ways as well as your Component Colors. This is where you manage attributes and images for each Color and organize them into different Palettes, or libraries, so they can be easily queried and applied to your Products and Components. Backbone partnered with Pantone to provide their most popular Color ranges for your ease of use.
Navigating the Palette Module
You access the Palette Module by clicking its dedicated icon in the Global Navigation
You land in the All Swatches section of the Palette Module to begin - this contains any and all swatches you have added to Backbone.
Palettes are curated collections of Colors (with 50 colors maximum)
Palettes are sorted in the left hand menu alphanumerically
To view a palette simply click it's name
You can also view all swatches that have been added to palettes by clicking the word "palettes" next to the plus icon
Managing All Swatches
Every Color you create in your account will begin its life by living in the All Swatches section
These colors you add can also exist within any palette you create
Any Colors you create from within a Product Summary Tab, a Component Variant Tab, or a Palette lands in the all swatches section.
The All Swatches section can not be deleted

Color Books 📚
Your account also comes with several Pantone Libraries by default
The Pantone Libraries are a resource to help you quickly create your own Colors referencing Pantone’s Names, Codes and Images
You cannot make changes to Pantone Libraries or the Pantone Colors living within them
Pantone Libraries cannot be deleted
Palettes 🎨
You can create additional, editable Color Palettes to organize subsets of colors by clicking the Add New Icon next to the word "palettes" in the left hand
Each Color you link to a Palette can also be found in the "All swatches section"
One Color can live on more than one Palette
Specify your Palette Name in the Palette Information drawer - This is required
Inside of a Palette view you can access additional options by clicking the three dot overflow icon next to the palette's name:
Rename
Duplicate
Delete - this is non reversible
Adding New Colors to Custom / Unsourced Colors
Create a new Color by clicking the Add New Swatch button at the top left corner of the palettes module.
Colors can also be created from the below locations, but regardless of where you create the Color, it saves to "All swatches"
When creating a new Product, in the Create Product Summary overlay
When editing an existing Product, in the Edit Product Summary overlay
In the Edit/Create Variants modal in the Component Variant Tab
From within a Color Palette
The Create/Edit Color Modal appears, where you assign various Color attributes:
Name
Custom Code
Internal Code
External Code
Swatch Image
The only required Color attribute is the Name
Color Name and Custom Code are the most visible attributes - you see them both in various places throughout the app and on printed Tech Packs
Use these fields to house the most important data about your Color
The Internal Code and External Code attributes are just visible within the Palette Module
These attributes are always queryable, but best practice is to use them to house less critical data about your Color
Upload an Image for your Color by dragging and dropping into the Attach Image box, or click to browse manually for it
Click Save and your Color record is added to your Library
Sourcing Colors from Pantone Libraries
Optionally Pull a Pantone Name, Code and Image into all swatches or any palettes by clicking "Start from a built-in Color Book swatch"
First, select the correct Pantone Library in the Library dropdown menu
Then query for your desired Pantone by its Name or Code, using the Code field in the Source section
You may search by name or code in the search bar labeled "Search Color Books"
Once selected, Pantone data will map to your Name and Custom Code fields, and the Pantone image will pull in as your swatch
You may edit/overwrite the Pantone Name or the Pantone Code with your own Name and Custom Code if you like
Pantone’s name will continue to display as part of the swatch caption, for future reference
Optionally add data to the Internal Code and External code fields
Click Save and your Color is added to your Library
Managing Colors within a Palette
Color Palettes have a search bar at the top where you can search the Palette for a specific Color by its Name, Custom Code, Internal Code, or External Code
Color Palettes display Colors in the order they are added by default, use the Sort dropdown menu to sort them by Name instead
Click the "+New Swatch" at the top left corner to add new Colors to your Palette
Then search for the Color by Name, Custom Code, Internal Code or External Code
Select the correct match and the Color is added to your Palette
You can also choose the Add Custom Color option within the drawer to create a brand new Color
The Create/Edit Color modal then appears
Fill in all attributes and click Save to add the new Color to a Library and your Palette at once
Click the Save button at the bottom of the "create swatch" popup when you’re finished
Click the Gear Icon at the top right corner of the screen to expand or collapse your Palette Information drawer
Hovering over any Color and Clicking the 3-dot Overflow Menu at the top right corner reveals a menu with options to Edit or Delete the Color in the Palette:
Clicking "Remove from Palette" removes the Color from your Palette, but it remains in its original Library
Clicking delete will delete the swatch entirely from your library of swatches
