Additional Pantone Color Books
Simplified Swatch Creation
Dynamic Search Capabilities
Enhanced Colorway Navigation
Palettes and Libraries are now combined, guiding the user with one of way of creating Palettes.
Where will you see this improvement?
In the Palettes Module (formally Colorway), there are now 3 main navigation sections:
All Swatches:
All Swatches are stored here, whether or not they are assigned to a Palette(s).
Anytime you create a new Swatch it will automatically be added here.
You can query your Swatch records, make updates, and quickly see or assign a color to multiple Palette(s).
Click the 3-Dot Overflow Menu, in the top right corner of the card to delete Swatch.
This will delete the Swatch everywhere the Swatch is being used (all Products and Components).
In the upper righthand corner, you can toggle to to only see Swatches that are “uncategorized” or do not live in a Palette.
The entire card is clickable to trigger Edit Swatch modal:
Palettes w/ “Create New Palette” button
Upon creation, you will be navigated to that Palette automatically.
Validation:
Palette name is required.
Palette name must be unique.
Existing Users: If you have been been using Backbone for some time now and had been previously leveraging Libraries and/or Palettes, you will automatically see all of those listed in your site in the left hand side bar.
All Palettes will be sorted alphabetically.
New Users: If you are just getting started you might not see any Palettes listed and will be able to begin to add new using the “Create New Palette” Icon.
Click the 3-Dot Overflow Menu next to Palette for the action menu with the following options:
Rename: This will be update the name of your Palette and will be reflected on any Swatch that has this Palette assigned to it.
Delete: This will only remove the Palette from your list of Palettes. The Swatches will not be deleted, this will only remove Palette reference from the Swatch. All Swatches will remain in the "All Swatches" section.
Duplicate: This will have the same name as the original Palette with (Copy) appended to the end. It does NOT duplicate the swatches themselves, but assigns all swatches to the new Palette.
Color Books
Up-to-date Pantone Color Books - 11 in total!
All previous Color Books have also been updated with new colors, color name changes or code changes.
You now have the ability to quickly create a new color, by clicking on the Swatch card in one of the built-in Color Books:

Where will you see this improvement?
Palettes Module
Click on the green +New Swatch icon on the left side of the navigation bar.
There are still two ways to create swatches, either by sourcing from a built-in Color Book or creating a Custom swatch.
Let's start with sourcing from a built-in Color Book swatch:
You can search by all Color Books or pull directly from a specific Color Book.
Once you have determined the Pantone, click Update Source.
You still have the ability to assign or update specific attributes such as the name, custom code, internal, external codes to this color. Note: if you overwrite all the attributes you will still always be able to query by the Pantone name or code
In the Palettes section, assign the Swatch to any applicable Palettes.
If you add the Swatch while you are in a Palette, it will automatically default to add the Swatch to the Palette you are working on
Next, let's walk through creating a Custom Swatch:
This flow is pretty much identical to how you previously created a Custom Swatch.
Add a Name or Code(s)
Add an Image
Assign the Swatch to any applicable Palette(s)
Product Records
You will still navigate to the Product Record and add the Swatch under the hardwired Colorway section.
Click + Add Swatch, this will trigger a dropdown with two options:
Enter Manually, if it's a new Swatch you need to add on the fly.
Find existing swatch, if the Swatch has already been created in Palettes.
When you select a Swatch you will be able to view all the attributes of the Swatch (name, codes, and Palettes the color exists in).
Component Records
You will still navigate to the Component Record and then to thee Summary under the hardwired Colorway section.
Dynamic Search Capabilities
It's now a lot easier to find the Swatch you are looking for, which leads to better color management!
Where will you see this improvement?
When you add a new Swatch to a Product or Component Record in the Create / Edit modal. Follow the below to add a new Swatch to an existing Product:
Click the Pencil icon to Edit the Product
Under the Colorway section, there is a new button + Add Swatch.
This will trigger a dropdown where you have the options to Enter Manually or Find Existing.
When you choose Find Existing, a new pop-up modal will appear called Find a Swatch.
The Palette dropdown is set to "Everything"
In the Search Palettes field, you can begin typing the Swatch you're looking for and this will search "Everything" by default.
Alternatively you can use the Palette dropdown to refine your search results to a specific Palette to find the swatch you're looking for.
Results will begin to appear, and you can click through to find the Swatch you're looking for.
You can only select ONE choice at a time.
