FAQ: How do I Manage Lab Dips?

Updated over a year ago

This question comes up quite a bit from our users! While we do not have a specific feature for labdips, we do have a great solution to manage this information on the Component record. Typically, we recommend one of the following 4 workflows to manage Lab Dips:

First, you could indicate lab dip approval in the Variant Code for each Color Variant:

  • To do that, enter your component variant view and add your component colorways.

  • Once your colorways have been entered, assign them a code to indicate a lab dip approval

  • After this has been updated in the Component Record, the code will be reflected on all BOM's the Color is being used on. We can view where those are used by entering the component utilization tab and clicking on the product’s name.

  • Then click on the BOM page and then the product variant to view the changes you made regarding lab dip approval.

  • This will carry through to a tech pack if we create one that displays the BOM in the expanded view.

Granted, this may not be the ideal solution because it primarily serves to indicate the approval stage of the labdip, whereas some users want to be able to track the development / status as well. However, this is how most of our clients manage a labdip currently.

Second, you could add comments in F&R of the Component.

  • Go into your component view and find the Feedback and Revision tab

  • Then create a new comment using the plus icon at the bottom right, where you can include any images you would like.

  • Although note: You can only see these comments in the Component record. If the Component is added to a Product, you lose those comments, as they only appear on the Component.

The third method of managing lab dips is by adding comments in F&R of the Product instead of the component.

  • This is accomplished the same way as with the previous method, just make sure you’re in the product view instead.

  • These comments would appear in the Tech Pack, under Feedback & Revisions.

  • You could then generate a Tech Pack with only the BOM and this one comment

Lastly, you can handle your lab dips in the "Notes" within your BOM Custom Field column

  • Start within the BOM for your product

  • Click within a cell under the notes column and input your updates

  • When you produce a tech pack and include the BOM your notes on lab dip approval will be displayed automatically.

Important Note: If this component is being used on multiple Products, you’ll have to add this to each Product BOM.
