Product Color Variants: UI Changes

Product Color Variants: UI Changes

Updated over 2 years ago

You may have noticed some recent changes to our platform! We're excited to unveil these changes as part of our release of Product Color Variants.

To help illustrate what's changing on the UI, here's a quick "Before and After."

Product Summary:

The old Product Summary lists colorways at the bottom of the page, as seen below.

  • Colorways are removed by clicking the three-dot ellipsis on the Color Swatch.

  • Colors are added by clicking the Add Colorway button.

The new Product Summary lists Color Variants in a chart at the bottom of the page.

  • Colors are removed by clicking the checkbox and selecting Delete.

  • Colors are added by clicking the Add Variant button.

    • New Feature: Add a Colorless Variant by clicking Add Variant and selecting No Color Assigned. This allows you to start tracking key attributes in Custom Fields (ex. target order quantities or launch dates) before you have settled on the Color details themselves.

Any products with no Colorways will now include a Colorless Variant by default.

  • Click the No Color Assigned button on the Colorless Variant to assign a color swatch.

Item Views:

The old Item View is managed with 3 buttons:

  • Columns - opens column manager

  • Density - adjusts Item View row density

  • Export to CSV

The new Item View is managed with the following:

  • Mode - switches the view between Product Mode and Color Variant Mode.

  • Display - opens the Display Settings, where you can add/remove columns.

  • Three Dot Elipsis - changes Density and offers the option to Export to CSV.

Quick Tip: To export a CSV by "Product & Colorway" or "Product, Size, & Colorway" you'll need to toggle to Color Variant Mode to export the CSV.

What is Color Variant Mode?

In Color Variant Mode, each Color Variant is broken into an individual row. The Name column will include the Product Name and Variant #.

As you begin managing data attributes on the Color Variant Level, this Mode will allow you to edit Custom Fields on the Color Variant level.

Admin:

Product Color Variants are now available as a Custom Field Type.

Here you can add new Product Color Variant Custom Fields or change existing Product Custom Fields into Product Color Variant Custom Fields. (What a mouthful!)

How to change an existing Custom Field into a Color Variant Custom Field:

  1. Click the Pencil Icon next to the Custom Field you'd like to edit.

  2. From the Edit Panel, click Section Dropdown and change "Products" to "Product Color Variants."

  3. Scroll Down to the bottom of the Edit Panel and press Save.

  4. Read and acknowledge the Warning Modal before pressing Confirm.

Important notes for changing a Product Custom Field to a Product Color Variant Custom Field:

  • Custom Field data will migrate from Product Custom Fields to Color Variant Custom Fields, but you cannot change them back. This is a one-way street!

  • Color Variant Custom Fields will not display on Tech Packs, Line Sheets, or Component Utilization Reports. (We intend to add this functionality in the future, so let us know which area you'd like to see added next.)

Key Takeaways:

  • Product Colorways are now managed as Product Color Variants.

  • Custom Fields can now be managed at the Product or the Color Variant Level.

  • Your product data will remain unchanged.
