Import Template (Pre-Configured Site)

Updated over a year ago

If you're getting started in Backbone and need to bring over a bunch of Product / Component information, have we got the solution for you.

We've built out an Excel template (.xlsx) at the bottom of this article to help you import your info so that it works in our custom field configuration. We recommend using Microsoft Excel rather than Google Sheets for optimum performance.

In your Pre-Configured Site you'll want to make sure you haven't changed too much. This is best if your working with the Custom Fields that are visible in the Excel Sheet template, and from there you can add additional fields using the format provided.

Filling out the template:

  1. Start by downloading the file at the bottom of this article.

  2. Open up the file using Microsoft Excel

  3. Inside the .xlsx file you'll see there are two sheets.

    1. The first sheet is for Product related information (i.e. Shirts) labeled PRODUCT CUSTOM FIELD CONFIG

    2. The second sheet is for Component related info (i.e. Zippers) labeled COMPONENT CUSTOM FIELD CONFIG

  4. In the first sheet we have organized the rows accordingly:

    1. Row 1 contains columns that distinguish between Taxonomy and Custom Field Information. This should not be changed

    2. Row 2 contains columns that give you titles of Field Names that you can find within Backbone. (Inside Admin -> Taxonomy and Control Panel) This should not be changed - but you can create additional fields to import beginning in Column AD

    3. Row 3 contains columns that give you the Field Types (i.e. dropdowns, text areas, dates...) This should not be changed - but you can create additional fields to import beginning in Column AD

    4. Row 4 contains an example we provided. We recommend following this format.

    5. Row 5 is where you can begin to input your own info.

  5. In the second sheet for components, these rows are essentially the same, but row 1 has been removed. This means Row 2 two from the previous example has become Row 1 and so on.

    1. The Field Names and Field Types can be found within Backbone. (Inside of Admin -> Control Panel -> Custom Fields, and scrolling down reveals the Component Fields.)

Once you've completed filling out the template using the format provided, you're ready to import!
