Some 529 plans allow you to verify and connect your Backpack account using Plaid, a secure tool that verifies your Backpack account ownership.
Steps to verify using Plaid:
In your 529 Plan, start the process to add your Backpack account as a new bank or financial institution.
When it comes to verifying your Backpack account details, you will see a Plaid verification screen (below) which states that your 529 Plan uses Plaid to connect your account.
Note: Select CONTINUE AS GUEST rather than entering a mobile number - this avoids any issues with saved logins or email conflicts (you can read why below).
Search “BACKPACK” in "Select your institution"
Note: DO NOT search / select OMB Bank or Old Missouri Bank. Plaid verification is done directly through Backpack.
Select “Backpack” as your institution.
Enter your email address associated with your Backpack account.
"Verify your identify" by inputting the verification code sent to the email
Confirm your Backpack account and click "Continue" to finish verifying your Backpack account through Plaid.
Note: Your 529 Plan may have steps after the ones described above. Please ensure you complete all of your 529 Plan's steps to add a new bank account.
Why “Continue as Guest” matters
Choosing “Continue as guest” helps ensure a smooth connection, especially if your email is already tied to a different financial institution login. It avoids linking issues and prevents errors due to previously saved credentials.
