How do I run the Charge Detail Report in Barti?

Go to Reports → Billing, open the Charge Detail tab, choose a date range, and pick a grouping — Billing Code, Category, Patient, or CPT.

Who this is for: All Barti users who review charges billed by billing code or service category.

Before you start, you'll need:

  • A Barti account with permission to view reports

Steps

  1. In the left navigation, click Reports, then Billing.

  2. Click the Charge Detail tab.

  3. Choose your Date Range.

  4. Select a grouping:

    • Billing Code — includes all charges, regardless of whether a category is assigned.

    • Category — includes only charges that have a category assigned. Charges without a category are silently excluded.

    • Patient — groups charges by patient.

    • CPT — groups charges by CPT code.

  5. Filter by Location if needed.

  6. To export the data, click Download CSV. Note: the Charge Detail CSV only includes columns currently displayed in the table. To add or remove columns before exporting, see How do I add or remove columns in a Barti report?

What you'll see when it works

The report lists charges billed, grouped by the option you selected, with totals per group. The report shows a full breakdown per group — Subtotal, Total Discounts, Pre-Tax Total, Taxes, Total Charges, Adjustments, and Balance — rather than a single net or gross figure.

The Charge Detail report filters by invoice date, not the date a charge was created. Keep this in mind when comparing to other reports.

How this report pulls its data

  • Filters on invoice date, not the charge created date.

  • VOID invoices are excluded.

  • Category grouping includes only charges with a category assigned — uncategorized charges are silently dropped, not bucketed separately.

  • Patient grouping adds a Total Payments column, which sums all payments to the patient in the date window (including any that were later disabled), plus an Outstanding Balance column.

Troubleshooting

Why is the Billing Code total higher than the Category total for the same date range?

Any charge without a category assigned is excluded from the Category grouping but included in Billing Code. Review your charges for missing category assignments if you need the totals to align.

Why does the Charge Detail total differ from Gross Production?

Two reasons: they filter on different date fields (invoice date vs. charge created date), and Charge Detail shows the full discount/tax/adjustment breakdown while Gross Production shows a single net figure. See What does each Barti report measure? for a full breakdown.

Why does Charge Detail differ from Payment Method / Day Sheet?

These reports measure different things. Charge Detail = charges billed. Payment Method / Day Sheet = payments received. A charge billed in one period but paid in another will appear in different reports for different time ranges.
