Who this is for: Practice admins only.
Before you start, you'll need:
Admin access to your Barti organization
Your device's companion app installed and running (Marco Connect, Reichert Capture, HDR-Mate — whichever applies to your device)
A notepad or text file open on your computer to copy file paths into as you go
Check What devices does Barti's machine integration support? to confirm your device is compatible before proceeding.
Requirements
The computer running the Barti Machine Integration app must be:
Connected to the internet at all times
Left running at all times — the app does not sync files retroactively
Running Google Chrome (required to download the app from Barti)
Device-specific requirements:
Marco — Marco Connect must be installed, running at all times, and set to XML output. Marco Connect must run on the same computer as the Barti app.
Reichert — Reichert Capture must be installed, running at all times, and set to XML output. Reichert Capture must run on the same computer as the Barti app.
Topcon (CV-5000, KR-1, KR-800, CL-300) — The computer must be on the same network as the device and have access to the network folder. The Topcon device must be configured to send XML data to a folder on the device. Contact Topcon support for device-side configuration help: 1-866-922-6278, Monday–Friday 8AM–8PM EST.
Huvitz — HDR-Mate must be installed, running at all times, and set to XML-Marco output. HDR-Mate must run on the same computer as the Barti app. The computer must be a Windows device (HDR-Mate does not support Mac).
Essilor — [VERIFY: Essilor/CBOX requirements appeared in the previous version of this article but are not present in the current source spec. Confirm whether Essilor is supported before restoring this section.]
Step 1 — Find your device's file path
Before installing anything, find the folder path where your device exports its readings. Open a notepad so you can paste the path as you go.
Marco Connect
Open the Marco Connect app.
Navigate to Tools > Options.
Locate the Output Path field:
If Use Default is checked, your file path is likely
C:\Program Files (x86)\Marco Opthalmic\Marco Connect\OutputIf Use Default is not checked, copy the path shown and paste it into your notepad.
Click Cancel to close the Options box.
Reichert Capture
Open Reichert Capture.
Locate the Output XML File Path field.
Confirm it is set to Local File.
Copy the file path (e.g.
C:\ReichertCapture\Output\Device1\) into your notepad.Click Save.
Topcon
On the CV-5000, hold down the Shift and Menu buttons simultaneously to open the Settings page.
Select Data I/O > System Configuration > Data File Configuration.
Confirm the file format is set to XML.
Locate and copy the path to the shared folder into your notepad.
Huvitz (HDR-Mate)
Open HDR-Mate.
Tip: To have HDR-Mate start automatically when Windows starts, go to Options > Connection > Startup & Connect and enable Start HDR-Mate on Windows startup.
Navigate to Options > Data Receiving & Transfer > Export Directory.
Confirm the following settings:
Data Receiving Option — Deleting Record: After Printed and Exported
Data Transfer Option — Deleting Record: After Transferred
Advanced > Export Type: XML-Marco
Copy the export directory path (e.g.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Huvitz\HDR-Mate) into your notepad.
Step 2 — Install the Barti Machine Integration app
Use Chrome to download. Downloading from Edge may cause the file to pause with a name like Unverified 1234.crdownload due to antivirus or organization security settings. If that happens, try Chrome instead.
Log into Barti with an admin account.
Navigate to Organization Settings > Integrations.
Scroll down to the Machine Integration section.
Click Download the Desktop App and save the file.
Mac users: The download link in Barti is for Windows. You'll need a separate Mac download link — contact support@barti.com to request it. After downloading, if macOS blocks the app, go to Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Security and click Open Anyway.
Windows S Mode users: S Mode blocks installation. To exit S Mode, go to Settings > System > Activation, click Store, and follow the prompts. You'll also need to install Chrome before proceeding.
Navigate to where the file was saved and double-click Barti Machine Integration.msi.
Click Next > Next > Install > Finish.
You do not need to restart your computer after installation.
Step 3 — Configure the Barti Machine Integration app
Open the newly installed Barti Machine Integration app on your computer.
In Barti, navigate back to Organization Settings > Integrations > Machine Integration.
If you see "Machine Integration API Key not found," click Enable Integration.
Click Copy API Key to copy your API key to the clipboard. The key starts with
barti_followed by a random string.Switch to the Barti Machine Integration app and paste the key (Ctrl+V or Edit > Paste).
Select your office location.
Click Add Directory and select the file path you copied in Step 1.
The app can watch multiple folders at the same time. Do not add the same folder twice — duplicate folders will cause readings to import twice.
Name your device. Be specific — if you have multiple exam lanes, include the lane number (e.g., "Lane 2 - Marco RT-5100") so staff can identify the source when reviewing imported data.
Select your device type from the dropdown.
Enable Delete after import. This removes the data file from the PC after it has been safely uploaded to Barti, keeping your folder clean. This setting is especially important for Marco Connect users.
Click Finish Setup.
What you'll see when it works
The Barti Machine Integration app shows a green icon on your desktop that spins when files are being sent to Barti. The app runs in the background and monitors your configured folder for new readings.
To test it, take a reading from your device and export it. Then open Barti and navigate to Exams > Imported Data to confirm the reading appears. See How do I import device readings into a patient exam in Barti? for the full import workflow.
Troubleshooting
I don't see the option to download the Desktop App.
Two things to check: confirm your organization has Machine Integration enabled (contact support@barti.com if unsure), and confirm you're signed in as an org admin. Non-admin users cannot access this download.
The app installed but isn't picking up readings from my device.
Confirm the file path in the app matches exactly where your device exports files. Navigate to that folder on your computer, delete any existing file, and reprint from the device. If a new file appears and then disappears, the app is working. If the file appears but doesn't disappear, delete it and try again. For Topcon devices, restart the device if the problem persists.
The app stopped working after the computer restarted.
The Barti Machine Integration app does not launch automatically after a restart. Reopen it manually and confirm it's running before taking readings.
Does the app update automatically?
No. Updates must be installed manually. Contact support@barti.com if you've been notified that an update is available.
