How do I import device readings into a patient exam in Barti?

Quick answer: After taking a reading on your device, export it and Barti picks it up automatically. Open the patient's exam, click Review Imported Data, select the reading, and click Assign Imported Data to populate the exam fields.

Who this is for: All Barti users.

Before you start, you'll need:

Steps

  1. Take a reading from your device.

  2. Export the reading using the device's Print or Output button. The Barti Machine Integration app picks up the file automatically — you'll see the green icon in your taskbar spin briefly as it processes.

  3. Open the patient's exam in Barti.

  4. Click Review Imported Data in the exam. [VERIFY: confirm exact location — source spec says "top-right corner of the exam."]

  5. Select the reading from the list.

  6. Click Assign Imported Data to populate the exam fields.

Act within 5 minutes. Only readings imported in the last 5 minutes appear in the in-exam Review Imported Data list. If more than 5 minutes have passed, see Finding older or unassigned readings below.

How device data maps to exam fields

When you assign a reading, Barti maps the data as follows:

  • Prescription → Glasses Rx

  • Objective Data → Manifest Refraction

  • Everything else → Other Refraction

If a value doesn't appear where you expect it, check the field category above before assuming the import failed.

Finding older or unassigned readings

If a reading didn't get assigned within 5 minutes, it moves to the unassigned queue. To find it:

  1. In Barti, navigate to Exams > Imported Data.

  2. Locate the reading.

What you'll see when it works

The refractive data from your device populates the corresponding fields in the patient's exam. If the green icon on the Barti Machine Integration app is spinning, the app is actively processing a file.

Troubleshooting

My reading isn't appearing in Review Imported Data.

First, confirm it hasn't been more than 5 minutes since the reading was exported — if so, check Exams > Imported Data instead. If the reading isn't appearing there either, see Barti machine integration troubleshooting for step-by-step diagnosis.

The data appeared in the wrong exam field.

Check the data mapping above. If the values are in the right category but the wrong field.
