General settings of the Video Time activity

The general settings of the Video Time activity explained

Updated over 2 months ago

Note: The available settings may differ depending on your site administrator’s configuration and your Video Time plugin tier (Basic, Pro, or Premium).

Video URL

There are three ways to add a video to a Video Time activity:

Paste a video URL

Enter the video URL directly into the designated field.

  • For Vimeo videos, metadata (title, description, etc.) can be automatically retrieved and populated in the activity settings.

Choose video from available list (Premium only)

Click Choose video to select from:

  • Connected Vimeo account videos

  • Already embedded videos in the course

Upload a media file

Use the file picker or drag-and-drop to upload a video or audio file.

Activity name

Set the name of the activity.
This is required and is shown in the course view.

Mode

Define how the video should appear on the course page:

  • Normal mode

Displays a standard activity link without preview or embedded player.

  • Label mode (Pro only)

Embeds the video player directly on the course page, including player controls and tabs.

  • Preview image mode (Premium only)

Displays a thumbnail preview. Clicking the thumbnail opens the activity.

Display options (Premium only)

Available when using preview image mode:

  • Show title – Display the video title below the preview.

  • Show description – Display the video description.

  • Show tags – Display associated tags.

  • Show duration – Display the total video length.

  • Show viewed duration – Display the user’s viewed progress.

Columns (Premium only)

Define the width of the activity on the course page in preview image mode.

  • Options: 1 to 4 columns

Preview image (Premium only)

Configure how the preview image should appear:

  • Select the image size.

  • Choose whether to display a play button overlay.

The play button serves only as a visual indicator that the image represents a playable video. Clicking it will open the Video Time activity, not start playback directly on the course page.

Description

Use Moodle’s standard text editor to add a description.
You can display this description:

  • On the course page

  • Above the player, when viewing the activity

Notes

Add custom notes using the editor. Notes appear below the video player when the activity is viewed.

Tracking interval (Pro only)

Control how often the video position is saved.
Useful for reducing server load during high-traffic events.

  • Normal (5 seconds)

  • Long (60 seconds)

  • Very long (300 seconds)

  • Disable – Tracking is disabled completely.

Prevent fast forwarding (Pro only)

Prevents users from skipping ahead in the video, ensuring the content is watched in full.

Resume playback (Pro only)

If enabled, the video resumes from the last watched position when accessed again, even from other course areas like blocks.

Enable next activity button (Pro only)

Adds a navigation button above the video that leads to the next activity.

  • Select a specific activity or use the default next activity.

  • Optionally, enable 'Automatically go to next activity' to redirect as soon as the video ends.
