Global Video Time Pro settings

The global Video Time Pro settings explained (Pro only)

Updated over 2 months ago

The Video Time Pro plugin extends the core Video Time functionality with additional playback controls, activity navigation, and a comprehensive tracking feature.

As an administrator, you can define default values for Pro-specific features, force values site-wide, mark options as advanced, and choose which player events should be logged. Default settings apply only to newly created activities.

You can find this section under Site administration > Plugins > Activity modules > Video Time > Video Time Pro.

Global defaults help enforce consistency and simplify the setup for course creators.

Default Settings

These default values apply to features found in the Video Time activity settings.

  • Prevent fast forwarding
Prevent users from seeking beyond the video portion they've already watched.

  • Resume playback
Automatically resume playback from the last watched position when the user returns to the activity.

  • Enable next activity button
Display a button above the video that links to the next activity.

  • Automatically go to next activity
Automatically load the next activity once the video finishes.

  • Mode
Choose how the activity appears in the course:

    • Normal mode: Standard link, no embed.

    • Label mode: Embeds the full player on the course page.

    • Preview image mode: Displays a clickable thumbnail (Premium only).

  • Tracking interval
Defines how often the current video position is saved:

    • Options: Normal (5s), Long (60s), Very long (300s), Disable
Longer intervals are useful for high-traffic sessions such as live events.

Vimeo Default Settings

These default values are applied in the embed options when a Vimeo video is used in a Video Time activity.

  • Do not track

Prevents Vimeo from using cookies or tracking data.
โ€‹Also disables the collection of video stats.

  • Autopause

Pauses the current video when another Vimeo video on the page starts playing.
โ€‹Has no effect if browser cookies are disabled.

  • Background

Enables background playback: hides controls, enables looping, and starts playback automatically.

  • Picture-in-picture

Adds a button to enable picture-in-picture mode and activates the API support.

Forced settings

Lock specific settings so they cannot be changed at the activity level.
Forced settings apply site-wide to all Video Time activities.

If a forced setting is later released, the affected activity will revert to its original configuration for that setting.

Advanced settings

Mark settings as advanced to hide them by default in the activity embed options. Users must click โ€œShow more...โ€ to access them.

Event Recording

Choose which events from the video player should be recorded in the logs of the Moodle course.

This event recording is not necessary for the completion tracking of Video Time activities.

  • Interactive events
Logs events triggered by user interactions with Vimeo overlays or hotspots.

  • Player events
Captures play, pause, seek, and playback rate changes.

  • Occasional events
Tracks caption activation, subtitle changes, chapter usage, and playback errors.

Report

  • Scale
Set the default maximum time scale (in seconds, minutes, hours, or days) used for graphs in the report. Information about video usage that exceeds the configured scale will still be accessible by scrolling.
This setting should reflect the typical maximum video duration used on your site.
