Global Video Time Repository settings

The global Video Time Repository settings explained (Premium only)

Updated over 2 months ago

These settings control the connection to a Vimeo account and the configuration of preview image mode in the Video Time activity.

You can find this section under Site administration > Plugins > Activity modules > Video Time > Video Time Repository.

Global defaults help enforce consistency and simplify the setup for course creators.

Video Time Repository

These settings are required to connect your Moodle site with your Vimeo account using the Vimeo API:

  • Vimeo Client ID
Enter the Client ID generated when creating a Vimeo App.

  • Vimeo Client Secret
Enter the Client Secret from your Vimeo App, used to authenticate with the API.

  • Store thumbnails
If enabled, thumbnails for Vimeo videos will be stored locally on your Moodle site. If disabled, thumbnails will be loaded directly from Vimeo.

Refer to the instructions for connecting a Vimeo account with Video Time for a detailed setup guide.

Default Settings

These default values apply to the feature preview image mode found in the Video Time activity settings. Defaults apply only to newly created activities. Existing activities are not affected.

  • Show title
Display the video title below the preview thumbnail.

  • Show description
Show the video description above the player and optionally on the course page.

  • Show tags
Display any tags associated with the video.

  • Show duration
    Show the total video duration.

  • Show viewed duration
Display how much of the video the user has already watched.

  • Columns
Choose how wide the video appears in preview mode:

    • 100% width: one column per row

    • 50% width: two columns per row

    • 33% width: three columns per row

    • 25% width: four columns per row

  • Preview image
Select the image size and format displayed in preview mode:

    • 1920 x 1200

    • 640 x 400

    • 1920 x 1200 with play button

    • 640 x 400 with play button

The play button serves only as a visual indicator that the image represents a playable video. Clicking it will open the Video Time activity, not start playback directly on the course page.

Forced settings

Lock specific settings so they cannot be changed at the activity level.
Forced settings apply site-wide to all Video Time activities.

If a forced setting is later released, the affected activity will revert to its original configuration for that setting.

Advanced settings

Mark settings as advanced to hide them by default in the activity embed options. Users must click “Show more...” to access them.
