Settings in Vimeo

Updated over 2 months ago

When embedding Vimeo videos with Video Time, several settings on Vimeo can impact how the video appears and functions in Moodle.
This article highlights the most relevant Vimeo settings, but it is not a complete list.
For full guidance, please refer to the official help center of Vimeo.

General settings

  • Title

The Vimeo video title can be automatically pulled into the Video Time activity title when using metadata import.

  • Description

The Vimeo video description can be automatically pulled into the Video Time activity description.

  • Thumbnail

The video thumbnail can be displayed before the video starts in Video Time and can be stored locally on your Moodle site if configured.

  • Tags

Vimeo video tags can be automatically pulled into the Video Time activity tags when importing metadata.

Appearance

By default, the Vimeo player in Video Time will inherit the appearance settings (colors, controls, etc.) configured for the Vimeo video, unless overridden in the Video Time embed options.

Languages

  • Subtitles and closed captions added in Vimeo are displayed in the transcript tab in Video Time.

  • If indexed and global search is enabled, users can search for phrases within subtitles and jump to specific points in the video.

Interactivity

  • Interactive studio

Any interactive elements configured in Vimeo’s Interactive Studio will also appear in Moodle when the video is embedded via Video Time.

  • Chapters

Vimeo chapters will be available in the chapter tab in Video Time, allowing users to navigate the video more easily.

Embed privacy

Make sure your Vimeo video is configured to:

  • Allow embedding anywhere, or

  • Whitelist your Moodle site's domain

If embedding is restricted in Vimeo, the video cannot be displayed in Moodle using Video Time.

Live event

When setting up a live event in Vimeo under the production settings, you have the option to enable recording. If enabled, Vimeo will record the event and save the recording to your Vimeo library.
Once the live event ends and the recording is processed, Video Time will automatically replace the live stream with the recorded version in the same activity.
