How to install Skills

Step-by-step guide for installing the Skills tool and its optional availability restriction component

File structure

Skills consists of two separate components depending on your product tier:

  • The tool – The main core plugin required for all versions (plugin type: tool_skills).

  • The availability – The restriction plugin (plugin type: availability_skills).

Note: This guide describes installation using the Moodle plugin installer. You can also install plugins manually by uploading them to your server.

For more details, see the official Moodle documentation.

Install Skills

  1. Download the Skills package (Basic, Pro, or Premium) from your bdecent account or the Moodle plugins repository (Basic only).

  2. For Skills Premium, unzip the downloaded package first to locate the individual component files.

  3. Go to Site administration > Plugins > Install plugins in Moodle.

  4. Upload the tool_skills ZIP file and complete the installation process.

Install the availability (Premium only)

If you want to restrict access based on Skills, you must install the availability plugin.

  1. Locate the unzipped package from your bdecent account.

  2. Go to Site administration > Plugins > Install plugins in Moodle.

  3. Upload the availibility_skills ZIP file and complete the installation process.

After installation

  • Check Site administration > Plugins > Plugins > Plugins overview to verify that all plugins are installed correctly.

  • Review the getting started article to begin using Skills.

Compatibility

The Skills plugin is officially compatible with Moodle version 4.5. While other versions may work perfectly, they have not been tested.
