How to install Dash

Step-by-step guide for installing Dash using the Moodle plugin installer.

About the file structure

Dash consists of two parts that work together to provide enhanced data visualization in Moodle:

  • Dash block (plugin type – block_dash) – Dash Basic

  • Local Dash (plugin type – local_dash) – Includes addons for higher Dash tiers.

Note: This guide describes installation using the Moodle plugin installer. You can also install plugins manually by uploading them to your server.
For more details, see the official Moodle documentation.

Install Dash Basic

  1. Download the installation package from your bdecent account or the Moodle plugin repository.

  2. Go to Site administration > Plugins > Install plugins.

  3. Upload the block_dash ZIP file and complete the installation process.

Install Dash Plus, Pro, or Premium

Dash Basic needs to be installed before installing the local plugin.

  1. Download the installation package from your bdecent account.

  2. Unpack the installation package and locate the local_dash ZIP file.

  3. Go to Site administration > Plugins > Install plugins.

  4. Upload the local_dash ZIP file and complete the installation process.

Note: If you are using a paid version of Dash, always get your installation packages from bdecent.de to ensure the block and the local plugin are on compatible version.

After installation

  • Check Site administration > Plugins > Plugins > Plugins overview to verify that all plugins are installed correctly.

  • Review the global settings to configure default behavior for your site.

Compatibility

The Dash plugin is officially compatible with Moodle versions 4.5, 5.0, and 5.1. While other versions may work perfectly, they have not been tested.

Note: If you already have Dash installed and would like to upgrade to a higher tier, please refer to upgrading Dash.
