The short answer is No, please do not contact your sponsor until your date of hire.

The BDV Client Services team will act as an intermediary and handle all of the communications between you and your sponsor employer up until your hire date. We have a well-developed and organized process that is best for you and the employer. This is set up and based upon many years of experience -- BDV serves your interests and we will work hard to get the best outcomes for you and your case.

Why shouldn't I reach out to my employer?

Firstly, when an employer is contacted by one of our clients outside of the established protocol, it confuses and occasionally angers the employers and HR staff. They expect the pre-hire process to be organized strictly through BDV. They do not want to be contacted until your date of hire.

Secondly, many of our sponsors have multiple locations, and their hiring needs change monthly and weekly. Sometimes clients make the mistake of reaching out to the sponsor because they want to know their location or request a specific location. But they (and we) may not know your location or the hiring needs until the month before you start working.

We are not trying to withhold any information from you; we just want to keep all communication clear, orderly and timely.

Please do not show up at your worksite in-person until your orientation details are confirmed by BDV. (If you go around BDV and try to get hired on your own without prior verification, this could delay your hire process as well as negatively impact your case.)

What about social media?

It is not appropriate for you to reach out to your employer until your hire date. Please do not attempt to contact the employer or future colleagues on LinkedIn, email, phone, or any social media. Once it is time for your hire date, we will give you the name and contact information of the supervisor you should contact. Even after that, please do not connect with them on social media unless they initiate the contact.

But what about my visa interview?

If you need a job offer letter for your visa interview at the embassy, do not ask your sponsor for this letter. You should reach out directly to your attorney, and then BDV can help your attorney provide the job letter.

If you are worried about preparing for your visa interview (and telling the officer about your employer), you will need to contact ARGO (a company of former consular officers BDV works with) or your immigration attorney for their advice.

Don't worry, our Client Services team will help you with the timing of your move and work, arrange the orientation and start date and provide a job verification letter. After we arrange your orientation date, you will be able to contact your employer. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your employment, you can reach out to our Client Services team directly.
