How can I keep my documents safe?

As an EB3 recipient, you will receive a couple very important documents.

AOS clients will receive either an EAD or a Green Card (GC) as their first work authorization document. Consular clients will receive a visa in their home country passport and then a Green Card soon after arriving to the US.

All clients should have a Social Security (SS) card. Most will receive it after receiving work authorization, but some AOS clients will already have a SS card.

These documents need extra protection because if lost, they are a hassle to replace, and worse yet, can cause identity theft and delay your immigration case.

Here are some tips on keeping your documents safe:

1) Never let anyone else use your SS number, and never use anyone else's SS number.
(This is a federal crime and can cost up to 15 years in jail as well as cause you to be deported.)

2) Do not carry your documents in your wallet or purse, so that they will not be stolen or lost.
(This includes SS cards, EADs, and GCs.)

3) Memorize your SS number or keep a photo of it on your phone so you can remember it.

4) Your primary photo ID in the US should be your US driver's license. If you do not drive or do not need a driver's license, go to the local DMV to apply for a state photo ID.
