If you were injured at work, that is a different issue, so please see this article.

If you believe that you have a pre-existing disability (ie - occurred before starting work) to accommodate at work, and your work is hindered by this issue, speak with your Human Resources department about ADA.

The ADA (Americans with Disability Act) is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on disability. It applies to anyone working in the US at employers over 15 employees, regardless of immigration status.

The ADA advocates for equal employment opportunities to qualified individuals with disabilities. This may include providing reasonable accommodation, where appropriate, to perform the essential functions of the job. It is your responsibility to notify a member of the Human Resources Department of the need for accommodation, who may discuss potential accommodations with you.

Every company’s process will be different. BDV cannot guarantee what kind of accommodations you will receive. You should find out your sponsor’s processes for handling ADA.

Your sponsor may require a medical diagnosis and physician note in order to grant accommodations.

The Employee Assistance Program may also benefit you. Check with your Human Resources Department to ask if they have an EAP available. In most cases, you do not need to be enrolled in medical benefits to be eligible for the EAP.

After speaking with your physician and your sponsor, please let us know if you have other questions.
