As an AOS client, you will need to attend a green card interview at a USCIS office. The AOS application must be approved before your status changes in the U.S. to a Lawful Permanent Resident. The interview may happen after you have already begun work for your employer.
PART 1: PREPARING FOR YOUR INTERVIEW
During your interview, the USCIS officer may ask for details about your history in the U.S., such as your past work experience, information about how you entered the US, your criminal background, details about your job with the sponsoring employer, etc. The officer could deny your green card and may send your I-140 to USCIS to be revoked if you are found to have given contradictory information during your interview. This is why you need to review the information you submitted in your I-140 and I-485 before the interview and ensure your answers are in line with them.
To better prepare for your interview, you should research the following information and be comfortable discussing this information in a conversational manner.
Biographic Information: The USCIS officer will want to verify all the details in your I-485. That includes your name, details of your birth, places you have lived, etc. The USCIS officer interviewing you is not only interested in the answers you give, but also in how you answer those questions. Your responses will be verified to help establish the validity of the evidence presented in the application you submitted earlier.
Job & Past Experience: The USCIS officer may ask you to elaborate on your new job and past employment history. They also may ask about your educational history.
Below is a chart of common EB-3 Unskilled jobs, with standard job descriptions and additional job details. You should not memorize and recite the job description word-by-word. However, you should review the job description and job details and be able to explain your job in a conversational way. Please remember that the job details below may not be exhaustive but are just a guide.
This article has a VIDEO explaining unskilled job duties common in BDV EB-3 jobs.

Admissibility: The USCIS Officer may ask about your criminal background. This includes previous criminal records – if you have been arrested or convicted by any court of law in the past, either in the U.S. or somewhere else. The officer will have records of any violation, even if it has been erased or cleared. You may also receive questions about any immigration violations in the past. You must answer these questions honestly and not try to hide any issues in your past.
English: You should try your best to have your interview in English. Being able to speak English will show the USCIS officer that you have an intent to remain in the U.S. as a permanent resident. Also, your employer expects you to speak conversational English, so you should be practicing English as much as possible before you arrive in the U.S. See this article to know more about BDV sponsors’ English requirements.
Payment to BDV Solutions: The USCIS Officer may ask you if you paid any fees to any recruiter or agent for the EB-3. If asked, you should state the amount you paid to BDV Solutions/your agent and that this fee includes consulting fees, placement fees, government fees, attorney fees for the USCIS filings, banking fees, and courier charges. You must make clear that none of the fee is paid to the sponsor, and no benefit is granted to the sponsor at any time during the process.
If you have your contract with BDV available, you should bring a copy of your contract to the interview. DO NOT present the contract unless you are asked for additional details from the USCIS Officer.
