🤔 About User Roles

User Roles let you create user groups for your community, and allow you to give role-based permissions for your community members.

🔧 Setting up your User Roles

1. Sign in to your Beam Dashboard and choose the community you'd like to setup your roles at.

2. Access the role management section under Platform Settings > User Roles.

3. Click on [Add New Role +] button.

4. Name your Role with a maximum of 15 characters and choose a display color (role color is shown under user profile settings)

5. Choose to enable Admin or Moderator permissions

💡Tip: Moderators can take action on reported content and choose to ban or timeout members. Admins have full control over the community and can also assign and revoke user roles to community members.

6. Choose to allow or disable certain permissions for that role.

💡Tip: You can change these same permissions for the entire platform at Platform Settings > Platform Permissions. You can also change them for each subforum under Platform Settings > Subforum Settings.

7. Save your new role by clicking on the [Add New] button at the bottom of the modal.

🏷️ Assigning User Roles to community members

To assign your user roles, access your Community Manager (click on "Community Manager" on the bottom left of your Beam Dashboard, or access it from your Profile Dropdown from inside your community).

1. Access the Roles page on your Community Manager

2. Search for the name or email of the user you'd like to assign a role to

3. Assign your desired role by clicking on the right side dropdown menu

💡Tip: Users will receive a notification to alert them of any role changes.
