Have you been to the dentist and provided your Extended Health Care coverage information, and still was advised you have an additional out-of-pocket fee to pay?
Dentists are provided a Dental Fee Guide by the Ontario Government and are given a guideline to bill their patients accordingly. However, some dentist may decide to charge over and above this guideline, and that's when you may be presented with an additional charge.
Insurers will only pay the amount stated in the current Dental Fee Guide.
It's a business, just like any other. In order to avoid the additional charge become a savvy consumer, ask your dentist if they charge according to the Dental Fee Guide. If they charge above, have a conversation with them advising that you can only afford their service if it's fully covered under your plan.
