Every insurer has a different policy, so it's important to check your booklet first.

The first step is to check your policy coverage booklet to find out if you have coverage for Home Nursing coverage.

If you do, you might have to first apply to your provincial health insurance Home Care plan and secondly to your extended health plan.

Many Canadian insurers cover home nursing care provided in Canada. Nursing care may be defined as care which:
(i) requires the skills and training of a professional nurse; and
(ii) is provided by a professional nurse who does not normally reside in the covered person’s home and is not a member of the covered person’s family.

Other conditions may apply.

The coverage may be limited to the minimum number of hours and level of skill needed to provide each essential nursing service, along with other limitations noted in your policy.

Contact your insurer or plan administrator to verify. Be ready with your certificate number and group policy number.
