Bundles are a very powerful tool, which allows you to package one or multiple items into a new bookable offer, which deviates from the underlying items in price or availability rules.
A bundle doesn't have its own availability (as in quantity) and instead derives it from the articles included in the item.
By this we mean, that a bundle, which for examples contains one instance of an article "Porsche Taycan" and one instance of "Child seat" will only be available if one Taycan and one child seat is available and will then block them.
So it becomes a 1 to 1 or 1 to many connection of the availability.
When creating a bundle you will find this box:
It defines which items are in this bundle (and in which quantity).
When you click on the "+ Add" button, a sidebar will open up and you can select the items.
Let's add 2 example items:
Now the bundle will calculate its availability, by checking whether 1x Example article and 1x Extra item is available. If yes and a customer books it, then one instance of Example article and one instance of Extra item will be blocked (just as if they had been booked separately).
Use cases:
Bundles can be used to achieve many things, which would usually contradict with the
rules of the underlying items.
Let's look at some examples:
Offer something at a different price:
Let's say the Example article would normally cost 150€ per day and the Extra item would cost 50€ per day.
You could create a bundle, which contains both and only costs 175€ per day (instead of 200€).
In a more realistic scenario this could be something like a bundle "Boat BBQ" containing a boat, a grill and a cooling box, for a smaller price then the individual items.
Create an offer only bookable in a specific timeframe:
Building on the last example, we could say that this "Boat BBQ" can only be booked on workdays between 09:00 and 16:00.
You would want to keep your boat bookable at all times and then use this specific offer to entice customers to book less desirable times (during which the boat would otherwise not be used).
For that you would simply set the availability rules of the bundle to say Monday - Thursday and 09:00 - 16:00.
