Once your site is published it is active for 365 days. Even after your event, you can keep the site up to accept donations. There are two things that need to be done to set up the donation page.
Making the Donation Page visible from the Event Website and then Pages section.

Next navigate to the Registration and then Donation section.
Here you can set your minimum and maximum donations, as well as set up predefined amounts people can donate.
Once your Donation Page is visible and Donation Settings properly configured, you can visit your event site and see the changes you made.
