The Part Inventory Valuation report shows the current value of your parts inventory based on actual cost at the moment you run it. Use this report to understand what your stocked and oversold parts are worth, or to reconcile your parts inventory against your accounting package.
How Cost Is Calculated
This report uses actual cost, not average cost. Each unit of a part is valued at the price it was individually purchased for.
For example, if you have two units of a part on hand — one purchased at $10 and one at $11 — the report shows the total cost for that part as $21.
Important Information
The Part Inventory Valuation report reflects your inventory value at the exact time you run it. Blackpurl does not support backdating this report to generate results for a past date.
If you need a snapshot of inventory value on a recurring basis, you can use Scheduled Reporting to automatically generate this report at a set frequency and email it to one or more licensed Blackpurl users. See Scheduled Reporting for details.
How to Run the Part Inventory Valuation Report
1. From the Blackpurl header, go to Reporting > Reports.
2. In the Blackpurl reports section, select Parts > Part Inventory Valuation.
The report opens with default parameters that include all parts where the inventory quantity is not equal to zero. This means the results include both parts with stock on hand and parts with a negative quantity — that is, parts that are currently oversold in Blackpurl.
Customising the Report
The Part Inventory Valuation report can be customised using parameters, columns, and grouping options before you run or export it.
Changing Parameters
You can change the report parameters by clicking the Search Criteria panel. For example, if you are running this report as part of your Data Emergency Plan (see Preparing Your Dealership for Power and IT Failures), change the parameter to Qty Available: Greater than zero.
Adding and Removing Columns
Use the See More Totals button to add or remove columns from the report. Some useful columns to consider adding:
If you are reconciling your Blackpurl Parts Inventory Valuation totals against your accounting package, add the Category column so you can compare values against the relevant General Ledger accounts.
If you want to see what portion of your inventory value is available or committed, add the Available Cost or Committed Cost columns.
Viewing Summary Totals
Click Summary Total to see a summary of totals for the report. From the summary panel, click See More Totals to select additional totals to display, such as Available Cost or Committed Cost.
Printing and Exporting
Click Save As and select your required output format to print or export the report data.
Tip: If you are reconciling Blackpurl against your accounting package, group the report records by Category. This lets you compare the Parts Inventory General Ledger — which is linked to each Category — against the corresponding General Ledger account in your accounting package.
Saving a Custom Report
Once you are satisfied with the layout, filters, and columns, save the configuration as a custom report by clicking Save. Saving a custom report means you can reuse the same settings without reconfiguring each time.
