Synced vs. manual integration and balance explained

Synced integrations (exchange, wallet, blockchain) fetch balances and transactions automatically via API key or public key. In CSV and manual integrations you upload or enter all transactions yourself. Only synced integrations have a Synced Balance, which Blockpit compares with the calculated balance.

Synced Exchange integrations

Exchange integrations fetch data from exchanges via API. With an API key and the matching secret, Blockpit imports the asset balance (Synced Balance) and transaction data directly from the exchange. For some exchange API integrations there is also a direct CSV file upload.

Synced Wallet integrations

Wallet integrations fetch data from the blockchain with a public key. Their basis is always a blockchain (e.g. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana). With the public key of your blockchain wallet or multi-wallet (e.g. MetaMask, Ledger, Trezor, Exodus), Blockpit records the asset balance (Synced Balance) and transaction data fully automatically, just like for exchanges.

How often does Blockpit sync exchanges and wallets?

In synced exchange and wallet integrations, the synchronization of transactions runs fully automatically once a day (Blockpit Plus subscription required) and takes a few minutes to hours. You can also start it yourself, for all integrations at once or for individual ones, in the Dashboard (Integrations tab):

Blockpit updates the asset balance (Synced Balance) and the related live price data automatically every 7 minutes, without you having to start a sync.

Blockpit marks integrations with no new transactions for 3 months with Inactive 3Mo+. There you can pause the sync.

✨ Blockpit Plus: If you do not want to start every integration yourself, then with Plus Blockpit syncs your exchange and wallet integrations automatically once a day. You can always start the sync of a single integration with the 🔄 icon for free. You can find Plus in the Shop.

💡 Tip: If transactions are missing in a synced integration, then you can also create them manually or upload them collectively via an Excel file: Upload a CSV file or Excel template.

CSV & Manual integrations

In pure CSV integrations you upload all transaction data with the CSV file from your exchange. How to get it is described in the guides to all CSV exchange integrations.

In manual integrations you enter all transaction data one by one or upload it collectively with the special Blockpit Excel template.

💡 Tip: If you want to connect a manual integration later with an API key or public key, then you can convert it into a synced exchange or wallet integration: Manage integrations: edit, group, delete.

What is the difference between “Synced Balance” and “Calculated Balance”?

Synced Exchange & Wallet integrations

In exchange or wallet integrations, each asset has a Synced Balance and a Calculated Balance. Comparing them shows possible mismatches. They appear as the tip “Mismatched Balance” in your integration and on the holdings tab.

If Synced and Calculated Balance differ, then you see the tip Mismatched Balance. How to solve it is described in:

CSV & Manual integrations

The asset balance of your CSV & manual integrations is also called “Balance”. It is calculated purely from your transactions, because there is no connection via API key or public key.

If you expect the tip Mismatched Balance on a CSV or manual integration, then it cannot appear there: it only applies to exchange and wallet integrations.

Common mistakes

✗ Expected the tip Mismatched Balance in a CSV or manual integration → it only appears for exchange and wallet integrations

✗ Looked for the Synced Balance as a value in the tax report → the tax report and tax optimization use the calculated balance, called Balance there

✗ Waited for automatic updates in a CSV integration → here you have to upload all transactions yourself
