Transferring Line Items

Learn how to transfer line items to a new order

Updated yesterday

There are times when some work on an order is completed, but other parts are not. Instead of editing the existing order, Boatyard allows you to easily transfer the remaining work to a new or existing order. This helps you keep your records clean and your workflows organized.

Transferring a Line Item

  1. Open the Order and Find the Line Item
Go to the order that contains the line item you want to move. Locate the specific line item you want to transfer.

  2. Click the Three Dots
On the right side of the line item, click the three dots to open the action menu.

  3. Select "Transfer"
Click on Transfer from the dropdown options.

  4. Choose Destination
You can now choose whether to:

    • Transfer the line item to an existing order, or

    • Create a new order for the transfer

  5. Confirm the Transfer
When you confirm, Boatyard will move the line item, along with any:

    • Line item details

    • Line item parts

    • Line item labor

    • Jobs

    • Job notes

    • Job time entries

    • Job media files

All order totals will be automatically updated on both the original and new orders.

What Happens After the Transfer?

  • If you selected to create a new order, a new order is created for the same customer and boat.

  • The line item and all its associated data are transferred to the new order.

  • You can continue working on the new order without affecting the original one.

Additional Notes

  • You can transfer line items to a different customer if needed.

  • You can also transfer to completed orders if rework or additional follow-up is required.

This feature helps streamline incomplete jobs and ensures accurate tracking for billing, job management, and customer communication.
